The BTWHSPVA Jazz Singers is a vocal performing group from Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Dallas, TX. This year’s group consists of twelve singers and three rhythm section players.

The concert takes place in the historic sanctuary of St. Paul United Methodist Church at 1816 Routh Street in the downtown Dallas Arts District, and will last approximately one and one half hours without a break. Please join us for a reception with the artists following the performance. Tuesday Nite Jazz, now in its 20th Season, is open to all, free of charge, thanks to generous support from Allie Beth Allman & Associates, TACA (The Arts Community Alliance), The Harry W. Bass, Jr., Foundation, the City of Dallas Office of Cultural Affairs, and loyal patrons like you.

The BTWHSPVA Jazz Singers have been recognized in the prestigious DownBeat Student Music Awards for four of the last five years. The group has been the DownBeat winner in the Large Vocal Jazz Group category for Performing Arts High Schools for the last two consecutive years. In addition, the BTW Jazz Singers has achieved finalist status in the Monterey Next Generation Jazz Competition for three of the last four years, and was the winner of the May 2013 high school vocal jazz group competition. As a result, the group was featured in performance at the 2013 Monterey Jazz Festival held the following September.
The BTWHSPVA Jazz Singers group frequently performs at events and concerts in the Dallas Metroplex, and was chosen as a featured performing ensemble for the National Association of Counselors convention held in Dallas this past October. This performance marks the first concert for the group at St. Paul Church.

Kent Ellingson has served as director for the BTW Jazz Singers since 2011. He has been on the music faculty at Booker T. Washington HSPVA for almost every year since 1984.
