The Pistolettes says
The Madison was a popular dance craze in the mid-60s and the second in our series of vintage dance workshops!

Way back when, The Madison's popularity inspired dance teams and competitions, as well as various recordings, and today it is still sometimes performed as a nostalgic dance at parties. The Madison is featured in the John Waters movie Hairspray, and it continues to be performed in the Broadway musical Hairspray.

Come learn this fun dance, on Sunday, taught by Ali Cornetti of The Pistolettes. Then stick around later for a BYOB dance party to practice your new moves!

The Details

Where? Ruby Room Studio. It's located right across the street from the entrance to Fair Park. There is parking behind Expo Bar and Grill on Parry Ave.

Wear? No special clothes are needed for the classes. But if you're feeling fun and want to dress for the period, feel free to wear your favorite late 50s/early 60s attire.

What? You need not have any previous dance experience. If you can walk, count and turn about, you can do this vintage dance. Vintage dances are group dances, so you aren’t left alone on the dance floor. Ali will teach the dance before the music is played and prompt your steps while you are dancing to the music.

Who? This workshop is open to all ages and genders. You don’t need to bring a partner.

Cost: $10 for non members, free with Ruby Room Studio membership!

And join us after the lesson for a dance party to practice what you've learned. Feel free to BYOB!
