The Wild Detectives says
Happiness for Beginners (St. Martin’s Griffin, 2015), Katherine’s newest novel, is a reflection on how sometimes you just have to get really, really lost before you even have a hope of being found. Main character Helen Carpenter –thirty-two and divorced for a year– knows it’s time—past time—to pull herself together. She needs to do something wild and adventurous and completely out of character. Which is why she signs up for a wilderness survival course in Wyoming: three weeks in a remote mountain range where she will survive a summer blizzard, a group of sorority girls, rutting season for the elk, and more than one infuriating man

Happines for Begineers has been a Book Club Pick for InStyle, a Target Emerging Authors pick, a Top Seller on the Macmillan site, a Women’s Fiction Best Bet for Heroes and Heartbreakers, and a Reading Roundup pick at SheReads.

Katherine Center is the author of four novels about love and family: The Bright Side of Disaster, Everyone Is Beautiful (Ballantine Books, 2007), Get Lucky (Ballantine Books, 2009), and The Lost Husband (Ballantine Books, 2013) and now Happiness for Beginners. Her books and essays have appeared in Redbook, People, USA Today, Vanity Fair, and Real Simple –as well as the anthologies Because I Love Her, CRUSH, and My Parents Were Awesome. Katherine is a graduate of Vassar College and the University of Houston’s Creative Writing Program. She lives in Houston with her husband and two sweet children.
