Have you not heard of Uncle Calvin's Coffeehouse? If not, let me school you. Calvin's has been in Dallas for 32 years presenting the best in local and national singer / songwriters. Their past performers list is a who's who of the folk / roots world from Ray Wylie Hubbard to Eliza Gilkyson to The Dixie Chicks and just too many others to name. In short, this is kind of a legendary venue that you may never have heard of.
Calvin's has asked me, Andrew Delaney, to host their "New Discovery" showcase about once a quarter. The purpose of the Showcase is to introduce artists to Calvin's who have never had the opportunity to play there. Each Showcase, we'll bring in 6 performing songwriters, plus a "feature" act. Our 6 showcase artists will perform a couple of songs each, then our feature performer (Me, this first time out) will do about 45 minutes. Then, after that, the booking committee at Calvin's will choose 2 of our showcase artists to do a special encore performance to cap off the evening.
This is a listening room venue, which means no audience chatter or ringing cell phones or TVs or any other such thing to distract from the performers. The venue operates out of Northpark Presbyterian Church, but has no specific religious affiliation of its own. Calvin's is non-profit run by volunteers. Your ticket price goes right to the artists and the venue's continued operation.
