DALLAS FOLKS, Grassroots is hosting an event near you soon...

As part of the International Prisoner's Family Conference, there will be a two hour presentation to gather the community and talk about mass incarceration and its impact on individuals and families.

The presentation will be split into 2 parts. The first hour will center shame, stigma, and the importance of language in shaping the narrative of mass incarceration. Presenters include Mignon Zezqueaux and Melvin Halsey. Both are members of Texas Advocates for Justice, a community group comprised of directly impacted individuals and their families to join together in the fight against overcriminalization of communities and the legacy of racism in the criminal justice system.

The second half will include a screening and panel discussion about the successful fight to reinstate contact visits in Travis County jails. Panelists include Austin organizer Jorge Renaud and Dallas organizer Josh Gravens.
