The best queer-inclusive bars in Delhi

Delhi’s LGBTQ+ nightlife is more diverse than meets the eye

Advertising

For decades, the city’s queer community navigated underground parties and whispered word-of-mouth locations. Today, the capital’s LGBTQIA+ nightlife scene is starting to boom, far beyond the confines of prioritising a safe space or someone’s parents’ house (though those never get old).

You’ve got the trailblazing dance floors of Connaught Place. The free-spirited rooftops of Hauz Khas, the sophisticated mixology-forward bars of Greater Kailash, their nearby chilled-out older sibling dive bars, and those two Aurobindo Market icons that feel like they’re caught in an enemies-to-lovers trope. Delhi’s queer nightlife is more diverse than meets the eye at first.

This city hosts spectacular high-decibel drag, sultry corners for dates, and spots for a cold beer, and none of them wave a rainbow flag during Pride month just for the sake of publicity. Some do lovely LGBTQ+-specific programming, while others are local haunts where inclusivity to the queer community is woven into the very fabric of their hospitality. Whether in glitter or a T-shirt, run! Crowds fill in faster on certain nights than others.

What is it: A live music-first bar with zero chill, co-owned by a queer entrepreneur

Why we love it: While most bars in the city are fighting for the loudest DJ set, Depot 48 offers something far better: a sense of participation. On any given night, you could walk into a drag show, a jazz performance, a live band set, or an unexpectedly chaotic karaoke session. The venue's two levels cater to different moods: the lower floor is perfect for intimate performances and singalongs, while the terrace comes alive with a more social, free-flowing energy where conversations spill between tables and strangers quickly become part of the night. If the music, food, and dancing have worn you out, the drill is to order a Jägerbomb and start again.

What to order: If you like your cocktails with a little drama, order the Monicatini for that spicy kick. More of a summer-in-a-glass person? The Peppermelon is refreshing and dangerously easy to finish. Pair your drinks with the palak patta chaat – crunchy, tangy, peak Delhi energy, or go for the crispy chicken bao if your chakna preferences lean heavier. And when you’re properly hungry, the Chicken Tikka Garlic absolutely deserves table space.

Time Out tip: Go on a Thursday if you’re looking for the liveliest queer crowd – the terrace is where most of the mingling happens. And check their gig calendar to experience some of the best performances in the city.

Timings: Mon-Sun. Noon-midnight.

Price: 2,500 for two

Address: M9, M Block Market, Greater Kailash 2 (GK 2), New Delhi

4S, Defence Colony

What is it: 4S is one of those rare bars that are passed down through post-work conversations that begin with ‘Have you ever been to 4S?’

Why we love it: Surviving for decades now, this king of dive bars has largely remained the same, while the surrounding Defence Colony market has seen several new and happening spots. Even before any of the queer-friendly, pride flag-holding spots came to reality, 4S was known to be an inclusive space. Older gays especially vouch for this one. By evening, every corner is buzzing, old rock anthems are playing overhead, and conversations about politics, cricket, relationships, and work are ricocheting off every corner. The menu doesn't try too hard and there’s no pressure to dress up. Most evenings, the space is jam-packed: it’s a frequent haunt for Delhi’s artists, journalists and lawyers.

What to order: The Chinese appetisers are non-negotiable. The chilli chicken has earned cult status among regulars, while the golden fried baby corn and garlic butter prawns pair perfectly with a cold beer, whiskey, or vodka. If you're staying for dinner, the fried rice and the PK style meat, a Kerala-style preparation, are worth ordering. And for those who prefer to snack their way through the evening, the masala peanuts and masala papad are fresh, punchy, and ideal for sharing between rounds.

Time Out tip: The expectation for a perfect table will disappoint you here. The best nights at 4S are usually when you drink standing near the bar and start conversation with strangers.

Timing: Mon-Sun. Noon-11.30 pm.

Price: ₹2,000-2,500 for two

Address: 26A, Main Market, Defence Colony, New Delhi

Kitty Su, The LaLiT

What is it: One of Delhi’s (and India’s) longest-running and loudly queer nightlife spaces, The LaLiT’s Kitty Su basically redefined drag in India

Why we love it: When Kitty Su opened its doors in 2011, queer nightlife in India looked very different. Kitty Su was among the first nightlife venues in India to actively create and sustain a dedicated space for LGBTQIA+ communities. Over the years, it has hosted some of the country's most influential drag performers, championed queer artists and DJs, and helped bring LGBTQIA+ nightlife into the mainstream. The programming changes with the night. You might find yourself at an international DJ set, a stunning drag show, or a Pride-themed Bollywood party where everyone knows every lyric. It's also one of the city's most popular post-Pride destinations, with marchers often heading straight here after the parade. If you're looking for one place that captures the energy, history, and joy of Delhi's queer nightlife, this is it.

What to order: Start with The Lalit, Kitty Su's signature cocktail, which arrives with enough flair to rival the night's performances. Fruity, theatrical, and accompanied by a touch of fire and bartending showmanship, it's a crowd-favourite for good reason. If you're looking to switch things up, the Kitty Su Punch and Bloody Madhavi are reliable choices depending on whether you're in the mood for something refreshing or a little bolder. On the food front, skip overthinking it and order the chic on a stick or the balls of lamb for a meaty delight.

Time Out tip: Arrive late. Like most good nights in Delhi, this one properly begins closer to midnight.

Timings: Wed-Mon. 10pm onwards. Check their social media calendar for specific event timings.

Price: ₹4,000-5,000 for two. Cover charges on event nights vary.

Address: The Lalit Hotel, Barakhamba Rd, opp. Modern School, Connaught Place, New Delhi, Delhi 110001

What is it: Frequently ranked among Asia’s best bars, this craft cocktail destination is proof that world-class mixology doesn't need to be snobbish

Why we love it: Aside from its annual queer Sidecar Means Business pop-up, performances, and a frequent Pride-themed cocktail or two showing up, Sidecar’s where you go to feel a balance between near-royalty in the quality of drinks and an easy-going end-of-night sanctuary. It’s deeply beloved all over its two floors, even when there’s barely a table and their tiny terrace is packed. The dim lighting and decor are, to put it simply, stunning. Service, and the fact that you’ll meet all sorts of characters here, carry you through the night almost as equally as their liquid art.

What to order: Go by mood – that’s something Sidecar cares about. Nab a seat directly at the main bar counter and ask one of their bartenders for a customised twist to any cocktail – they’ll have a few tricks up their sleeves.

Timings: Mon-Sun. 1pm-1 am.

Price: ₹3,500 for two

Address: M-29, 1st Floor (above HDFC Bank), M Block Market, Greater Kailash II, New Delhi, Delhi 110048

Saqi Bar, Connaught Place

What is it: Saqi in Hotel Alka Classic is an atmospheric gem that used to be a frequent gathering-spot back when being queer was illegal in India

Why we love it: Named after the traditional mystical bartender/cup-bearer of Urdu poetry, Saqi offers a mood that is distinct from the loud music of most bars. In spite of decidedly being the least flashy spot on this list, the venue has become a favourite among queer writers, activists, and people who prefer soulful ghazals, retro Bollywood vinyl tracks, or low-fi electronic beats over standard club anthems. What this results in is a gorgeous bridge between Delhi’s heritage, as far as standard watering holes are concerned, and contemporary queer identity. Maybe it’s a happy accident, but I’ve learned a lot about Delhi just by listening to the stories of Saqi’s regulars.

What to order: The classics. The food features refined Mughlai and North Indian tapas, where the galouti combos, fish tikkas, and rogan josh are crowd-pleasers.

Time Out tip: Planning a bar crawl? Make this the first spot on your list. Calmest one by far.

Timings: Mon-Sun. Noon-10pm.

Price: ₹1,500 for two

Address: Hotel Alka Classic, Outer Circle, Connaught Place, New Delhi

Monkey Bar, Vasant Kunj

What is it: Housed inside a glass-pyramid structure, this iconic gastropub combines playful design and stellar cocktails

Why go: Monkey Bar’s been host to some of Delhi’s largest queer parties. It’s been around long enough that it was part of the 2010s gastropub rise in India, and it’s one of few among those to maintain a consistent diverse crowd. Add to this the fact that it’s competing with all the new hotshot bars in Vasant Kunj and standing on business. Part of why is the immense creativity that goes into the events curated here. Like the others, it’s also a highly sociable venue, but this is definitely a spot you’d want to bring friends or a date to.

What to order: The Mangaa Mule (vodka, aam panna, cumin, and mint) and the Gibson (ghee-washed gin, fruit bitters, onion and pickle brine). This place does sweet and savory (together) cocktails pretty well. For something punchier, try any of the self-explanatorily named King Kong cocktails. To eat, go with any of their small bites – you’ll have to debate ‘em with your table because of the range.

Timings: Mon-Sun. 1 pm-12am.

Price: ₹2,500 for two.

Address: Plot No. 11, Pocket C 6 & 7, Local Shopping Complex, Vasant Kunj, New Delhi

Auro Kitchen & Bar, Hauz Khas

What is it: A nifty industrial-chic rooftop and indoor space in the Aurobindo Market cluster, making waves for its record shop and very cool music nights

Why we love it: Auro is massively showing up as a sanctuary for Delhi's creative and queer crowds. Known for its progressive programming, it frequently hosts queer-centric pop-ups, electronic music collectives and community flea markets. You'll see everything from streetwear to full-glam on their regulars, who are likely already debriefing on their night halfway in those iconic orange-tiled washrooms. Whether you’re dancing under the (admittedly invisible) stars on their expansive open-air terrace or packed into the indoor dance floor listening to a homegrown techno DJ, Auro delivers an electric, high-energy night, if you stay long enough.

What to order: Some of the best cocktails here are named after songs, like Purple Rain and The Godfather Theme. The el presidente is refreshing, though you can take the citrus a notch higher with their moscow mule. There’s no better chakna option on the menu than their good old guacamole and nachos. Pasta’s great too, especially the baked pesto cannelloni. Skip the Asian.

Time Out tip: They do free drinks for women on Tuesday nights post 9pm. Keep an eye on their Instagram page for sub-cultural music gigs.

Timings: Mon-Sun. Noon-1am.

Price: ₹2,800 for two

Address: 31, 2nd Floor, DDA Shopping Complex, Aurobindo Place, Hauz Khas, New Delhi

What is it: A delightfully old-school, no-nonsense neighborhood bar in GK I that trades trendy aesthetics for reliable cocktails

Why we love it: Long before Saket had ‘concept bars’, it had spots like Big Banana. For the queer community, especially those looking for a low-key, budget-friendly night out without the pretension of South Delhi's mega-clubs, BB is a safe haven. The lighting, cozy tables, and playlist packed with 90s rock and early 2000s pop create a comforting time capsule. It’s the ultimate spot for a debrief, or starting a long night out somewhere where no one is judging your outfit or who you're holding hands with.

What to order: The classic beer or rum and coke can’t be beaten. Food-wise, they serve excellent, comforting Indian-Chinese and classic bar snacks. The chilli mushroom, all of their chicken starters, and masala-dusted french fries were made to be drinking snacks – their biryani stands on its ground if you’re hungrier.

Time Out tip: If you want a quieter time, head over during the late afternoon or early evening. By 9pm, the energy picks up as regulars drop in to claim their favorite tables.

Timings: Mon-Sun. 11.30am-11.30pm.

Price: ₹1,500 for two with alcohol.

Address: 15 & 16, 1st Floor, J Block Market, Saket, New Delhi, 110017

Summer House Cafe, Hauz Khas

What is it: The darling of Aurobindo Market with an almost infamous reputation for wild nights mid-week

Why we love it: Incessantly youthful, breezy energy is what Summer House insists on, whether through their gigs with some of Delhi’s youngest artists, their gregarious salsa nights, or the haphazard blur that your weekday night becomes a few drinks in, running up and down the stairs to the terrace, choosing a step, and crouching in to talk about how you’ve got to go somewhere else. (Chances are that decision gets heavily delayed.) Everyone wears whatever the hell they want (though the unofficial dress code is… hot) and approaches each other with ease; that’s sort of the drill here. The rooftop is perfect for casual, sometimes flirty banter, while the indoor floor is for sweaty, uninhibited dancing – but both happen on both, naturally. It’s also an underrated spot for day-drinking.

What to order: Even the best drinks here are fruity. Order the Mai Tai or Planter’s Punch for a refreshing kick (the pitchers are more than ample if you mean business). The LIIT if you’re trying to really screw your head off. You can’t go wrong with their fried bites, but… laugh all you want… their breakfast eggs are spectacular with a citrusy drink.

Time Out tip: Ladies, you get three free cocktails on Thursday nights, though they’re not so heavy.

Timings: Mon-Sun. Noon-1am.

Price: ₹2,500 for two

Address: 1st Aurobindo Place Market, Sri Aurobindo Marg, Hauz Khas, New Delhi, Delhi 110016

SOCIAL

What is it: You probably already know. By day, a co-working spot, by night, the Delhi youth-centric bar brand

Why we love it: Especially at their Saket outlet, SOCIAL occasionally hosts events for and by the queer community – even drag! And they do not hesitate before throwing someone rude out. Almost all of their orange neon-tinged outlets are located in the midst of a shopping hub or mall, making it a good spot for the latter half of a June day out… and some (read: the terrace in Hauz Khas) even have gorgeous lakeside views. The Vasant Kunj one’s the best for large groups, but their Connaught Place outlet is ideal if you’re meeting people from all over Delhi. The best spot to dance at, though, in our opinion, simply has to be Hauz Khas.

What to order: The sugarcane cult classic Banarasi Patiala, of course! The Longest Long Island Iced Coffee, which recently popped up on the menu, is also fantastic. For food, go for their North Indian, especially the chaats and ghee roasts (a personal favourite is the wasabi hash brown chaat). Alternatively, their many iterations of chicken wings are nice – ask for a range in your platter.

Timing: Varies per outlet.

Price: ₹2,000 for two
