Hazel & Dewey says
Hazel & Dewey is proud to host cookbook author, dinner wrangler, and mother of two, Alana Chernila for an in-person introduction to her new cookbook The Homemade Kitchen: Recipes for Cooking With Pleasure.

Author of one of our favorite cookbooks The Homemade Pantry, Alana Chernila will be in the store on Thursday, October 22nd, from 6 to 8 P.M. to introduce her new book, demonstrate her recipe for preserved lemons (which make a fantastic homemade gift), and sign copies of her new book.

The recipe demonstration begins at 6:00 PM. Please RSVP to info@hazel-dewey.com or 303-777-1500 to reserve a seat for the demo.

“Start where you are.” “Feed yourself.” “Do your best and then let go.” “Do the work.” “Slow down.” “Invite people over.” “Don’t be afraid of food.”

Alana Chernila has these phrases taped to her fridge, and they are guiding principles that help her stay present in her kitchen. Each of the chapters in the The Homemade Kitchen: Recipes for Cooking with Pleasure grows from one of these principles, and together they create a blueprint for mindfulness in the kitchen, for changing the way we relate to the work of cooking. They prompt Alana to find pleasure in the everyday starting with what she cooks.

The 150 recipes in The Homemade Kitchen are delightful to make and fit for every occasion,
covering everything from the staples Alana is known for—things like kefir, goat cheese, and kimchi, among dozens more, plus recipes for using them. Think: Kefir Banana Cake, Chevre Cheesecake with Mint and Berries, and a kimchi quesadilla.

“There is a tenderhearted quality to everything about Alana, extending to her beautiful sense of what a cookbook should be. She nails it with this one—it is so compelling! As soon as you look at these pages, you’ll want to dive into the recipes, and everything culinary will feel fresh and new. You’ll also feel you have a wise and passionate new friend to guide you through.”

—Mollie Katzen, author of The Moosewood Cookbook and The Heart of the Plate
