CALL & RESPONSE is a monthly space for the study and practice of music as a tactic. It is movement choir practice. It is a chance to learn songs that will be deployed during upcoming actions and public witness. It is a space where we raise our voices together.
THE CALL: Our streets, schools, churches and neighborhoods are bubbling with social movements. As we gather together, what songs do we sing? What songs are missing? What voices are missing? What more needs to be said?
THE RESPONSE: It's time to reclaim music as a tool, to move beyond formats that divide us into "performer" and "audience". The truth is we are all musicians. We all have a responsibility to bring songs to the struggle, to teach them and test them, to sing them and share them, to revive and revise them, to augment and amplify them.
