A music industry meet up and discussion.

Meet us for a conversation about the music business. We will spend a few minutes doing introductions before opening the floor for questions and conversation. We believe that sharing our hard lessons, success stories and questions with each other will help us all to make better decisions with our own bands.

Promotions / Branding / Marketing your band.

Our guests this month are Jessi Whitten of Open Air and
Joel Rekiel of BLDGBLKS Music Company.

On Jessi:
Jessi joined Colorado Public Radio as music director for OpenAir in September 2011 after spending four years at the University of Colorado’s nationally-recognized student radio station, Radio 1190. She served as music director for Radio 1190 for two years, planning daytime music programming, producing content for the web, and screening and reviewing CDs. In addition to managing the responsibilities of music director, Jessi also hosted the station’s morning show on and off from 2008-2011. Prior to that, she was Radio 1190’s volunteer coordinator, scheduling events, recruiting new volunteers and creating promotional materials for the station.

Founded in November of 2013, BLDGBLKS is a Denver-based music company creating sustainable careers for their clients in the entertainment industry. They specialize in artist development, artist management, guerrilla and digital marketing, social media strategy, content creation, and consultation. Their clientele includes bands, artists, music businesses, lifestyle brands, and more.

They are located in a secluded estate in Lakewood, CO, and share the space with The Spot Studios. The mansion-turned-recording-studio is unique in its design and is home to state-of-the-art recording technology and a team of world-class producers. The team is comprised of experienced artists, engineers, web developers, designers, writers and event organizers. They know what it's like to be faced with a challenge that seems impossible to overcome, and work with clients to create a plan that fulfills their vision.

The company has helped shape multiple local bands through their development process and have worked with national and international clients ranging from design, branding, websites, music videos and touring.
