Spread Art presents
at Light Box
An experimental opera by Robert Ashley, as choreographed by Megan Bridge, Dust is boldly transformed into a new kind of performance. Time expands, and narrative shimmers forth and slips away with a seamless interplay between movement, music, and visual design.
Working with the original recording and a cast of five dancers, choreographer Megan Bridge explores the dark, hallucinatory, and the quirky, mundane world of composer Robert Ashley’s opera Dust. The work’s complex rhythms and distinct musicality carry a strangely ebullient and humorous tone despite subject matter that includes war and a drug induced conversation with God.

Light Box is a multidisciplinary performance and arts venue in Detroit curated by Corey Gearhart and Stefanie Cohen of the performance collaborative, Upended Teacups. As they transition their building from its former lives as bank turned Baptist church to an artist-run space, they are dedicated to providing opportunities for artists to share from their process through performances, discussions, classes, skill-shares and social forum; presenting work that challenges in both form and content.
Dust is made possible with support from Art Stations Foundation Poznań [Poland], Center for Performance Research, Dance/UP!, Independence Foundation, Light Box, People Dancing, PhiladelphiaDANCE.org, and Spread Art.
