Gleaners Food Bank March

Time Out says

On Saturday, March 21st, from 9:00am-11:30am Sunday Assembly Detroit will be volunteering at the Detroit Gleaners Warehouse. Afterwards, we will grab lunch at IHOP on Jefferson Ave. The projects in the warehouse vary. Volunteers may be sorting and/or packing food, assembling agency food orders, sweeping, and more. Please dress comfortably in clothes that might get dirty. In order to work in the warehouse, you are required to wear closed-toe shoes. In colder weather, please dress in layers. The warehouse is chilly, but you warm-up when the work begins. Since the jobs require some bending, please wear tops and bottoms that provide adequate coverage. They will provide small lockers for you to put your personal items in while you are volunteering, but we encourage you to leave valuables at home. They will also have water. If you would like to bring a snack for your break time, please feel free to do so. Please make every effort to arrive on-time. Parking is free in the gravel lot directly across the street from the warehouse. Please enter the building thru the door marked with the “Volunteer Entrance” sandwich-board sign. Sign in on the Sunday Assembly sheet. If you have any questions, please feel free to email Leah Rapp at leah.rapp@gmail.com or send her a Facebook message. She is very nice and awesome and is excited to be hosting this event. _____________________________________________ What is Gleaners? For more than 37 years, Gleaners Community Food Bank has been "feeding hungry people and nourishing our communities.” Last year, Gleaners distributed 41 million pounds of emergency food to more than 550 partner soup kitchens, shelters and pantries in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Livingston and Monroe counties. Of every dollar donated, Gleaners uses 94 cents for food and food programs. One dollar provides three meals for a hungry neighbor.
