Krishnamurti: With A Silent Mind

The film tonight is about Jiddu Krishnamurti who was a speaker and writer on philosophical and spiritual subjects. His subject matter included psychological revolution, the nature of the mind, meditation, human relationships, and bringing about radical change in society. Krishnamurti was known for his involvement with the Theosophical Society. His supporters working through non-profits in India, Great Britian and the United States oversee several independent schools based on his views in education.

With A Silent Mind is a richly detailed biographical portrait of Krishnamurti's life and teachings. Extraordinary archival footage from India, England and America in the 20's and 30's . . . discovered as a young boy on the beach in South India by C.W. Leadbeater of the Theosophical Society, Krishnamurti was chosen to be the vehicle for the "world teacher," the Lord Maitreya who, according to Buddhist tradition comes to Earth every 2,000 years.

The film follows Krishnamurti's initiation and education in preparation for the "coming" and his subsequent dramatic break with the Theosophical organization in 1929 where he proclaimed "Truth is a pathless land. Men cannot come to it through any creed, dogma, priest or ritual." And in embracing freedom, Krishnamurti indeed went on to become one of the world's great teachers.

Doors open around 7 p.m. . . . film starts at 8 p.m. . . . discussion before and after the film encouraged. Thanks for your participation.
