Re Unite At The Wright says
City, Suburbs, Metropolitan Detroit: Reunite at The Wright for the historic unveiling of Kresge Eminent Artist Charles McGee's landmark sculpture, "United We Stand." This metro Detroit community reunion will feature entertainment, family activities, food trucks, performances by Poet Laureate of the City of Detroit Naomi Long Madgett, Mosaic Youth Theatre of Detroit, acclaimed hip hop and spoken word artists Mike Ellison and Jessica Care Moore, InsideOut's Terry Blackhawk, The Secret Society of Twisted Storytellers' Satori Shakoor, Michael Reyes, Najwa Zebian, DJ Maestro, the Detroit Police Department's Running Man Challenge dancers kicking off a "United We Hustle" dance party and much, much more! This community celebration is free and open to the public; BYOC (bring your own lawn chair) recommended!

At 91 years of age, McGee has built a lifelong legacy of mentorship, community service, and arts advocacy, while maintaining a cutting edge contemporary art practice. The unveiling of "United We Stand" marks the beginning of The Wright Museum's yearlong commemoration of the 1967 Detroit Rebellion which will include an exhibition recalling the period leading up to and including that fateful event. McGee’s most ambitious work to date, "United We Stand" will serve as a steadfast reminder that we are all interconnected, that we are of one Detroit, and that we share one human history.

"United We Stand" was made possible by the generous support of The Joyce Foundation, Mrs. Linda Forte & Mr. Tyrone Davenport, The Kresge Foundation, Ms. Barbara J. Mahone, Mrs. Serena & Mr. Kieth Cockrell, Dr. Vivian Carpenter & Mr. Jon Barfield, the Board of Trustees of The Wright Museum, and project supporters through the 2015 Crain's Detroit Business Homecoming.
