Lucky Fish Friday Night Racing is turning race night into a Friday-night experience, with themed evenings, live entertainment, food and racing under the lights.

Hollywoodbets Greyville felt a little more like the Mediterranean than Durban on Friday night, as Lucky Fish Friday Night Racing brought its OPA! Greek Night theme to the racecourse.
The 28 August event was the latest instalment in the Lucky Fish Friday Night Racing series, designed to reimagine the traditional night at the races. Rather than simply coming to watch the horses, guests are encouraged to make an evening of it, with each Friday bringing a different theme, food offering and entertainment line-up.
The series kicked off earlier this month with a South Korean-inspired night, followed by a Ladies' Night and a Friday Night Fever theme. The idea is simple: keep the racing as the main attraction, but add enough food, music, entertainment and themed experiences to make it a destination for a Friday night out.
And Greek Night certainly embraced the brief.
The racecourse was given a Mediterranean makeover, with male and female models dressed as Greek gods and goddesses adding to the spectacle and giving guests plenty to look at between races.
There was also plenty happening for food lovers, with Greek-inspired dishes available around the venue. My pick for the evening was a delicious lamb souvlaki, a particularly good accompaniment to a night spent moving between the racing action, music and food stalls.
On the entertainment front, Kyle Deutsch and Sketchy Bongo provided the soundtrack to the evening, performing between the races and keeping the atmosphere lively as the crowd settled into the night.
For those wanting more than the trackside experience, the programme also included comedy, with Bash with Tash performing in the Durban View Room, as well as a KidZone, bar specials and an after-party.
The concept is particularly appealing because you don't need to be a seasoned punter to enjoy it. You can come for the racing, meet friends for drinks and dinner, check out the theme, listen to live music or simply soak up the atmosphere.
By the time the final races had run, the evening had developed into a proper Friday-night outing, rather than simply a trip to the races. And the night ended with something of a light show, giving the event one final bit of spectacle before guests headed home.
Lucky Fish Friday Night Racing takes place at Hollywoodbets Greyville, with the series built around themed Friday evenings. The concept launched on 7 August and has been running throughout August, with the themes changing from week to week.
The events are designed to be accessible, with free general entry, gates opening at 3 pm and entertainment and food forming part of the wider race-night experience.
So, whether you're there to back a horse, grab a bite, meet friends or just find something different to do on a Friday night, Lucky Fish Friday Night Racing offers a pretty compelling reason to head to Greyville.
More than just racing. Friday nights, reimagined.
