At Time Out South Africa, we make it our mission to help you find the best of your city - but this week it's hitting a bit differently.
Right now, we can't do that without acknowledging that our country is living through a femicide crisis. Pretending it's not happening would be a failure of the job we've set ourselves, as local experts, to cover our cities in a real and trusted way.
Our communities across Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town are gathering and refusing to be silent. We're adding our voice by sharing this round-up of memorials and vigils taking place near you.
We believe everybody deserves to move freely, and most importantly, safely! We encourage you to take action, remain aware, and support each other for a safer South Africa for all, especially women.

With that in mind, here are three events worth getting out and about for in Durban this weekend.
The city is dressing up for the Durban Fashion Fair, getting cultured with European cinema and poetry, and bringing plenty of laughs with the Bafunny Bafunny comedy festival.
And that’s really just to name a few.

Durban Fashion Fair: Where Legacy Lives

Durban Fashion Fair is celebrating its 15th edition with three nights of South African fashion under the theme ‘Where Legacy Lives’.
The milestone showcase brings together 84 designers, including 20 emerging designers from the DFF Class of 2026 mentorship programme. Each evening features a different line-up of established and emerging designers, making this a chance to see some of Durban’s fashion talent take to the runway.

India Diwali Expo

The India Diwali Expo has brought a colourful slice of Indian culture to Durban, with vendors travelling from across India to showcase fashion, food, jewellery, footwear, homeware and more – and you have one more week to enjoy it.
13th European Film Festival South Africa

European cinema comes to the Durban Point as the 13th European Film Festival South Africa brings eight award-winning films to New Noise Courtyard. Expect an eclectic selection of contemporary European cinema exploring family, relationships, identity, history and survival.

Sunday Shuffle x Bioderma DBN

If you like your weekend plans with a little movement and a good cause behind them, Sunday Shuffle is heading to La Lucia Mall for a free 5km social run.
Despite the name, this one is happening on Saturday morning as part of Bioderma’s skin cancer awareness campaign. Meet from 7.30 am for an 8 am start, then stick around for music and a DJ after the run.

Poetry, indigenous music and cultural dance come together at the Conversing Kingdoms Poetry Extravaganza. Curated by Luleka Mhlanzi under the theme ‘awakening the feminine’, the event invites audiences to celebrate the richness of their lineage through an afternoon of poetry and cultural performance.
Bafunny Bafunny: South African Festival of Comedy

South Africa’s ‘National Team of Comedy’ heads to Suncoast for Bafunny Bafunny, a live showcase featuring some of the country’s biggest comedy names. The line-up includes Trevor Noah, Eugene Khoza, Learnmore Jonasi, Nonto R and Rory Petzer, with a mix of sharp storytelling, observations and stand-up comedy.
Glenwood Village Spring Fair

The centre’s monthly market is getting a spring makeover, with stalls selling everything from vintage clothing and accessories to arts and crafts, handmade soaps, jewellery, farm-fresh produce, healing crystals and cleaning products. Regular pop-ups including Street Lit Books, leather belts, perfumes, beadwork and crafts will also be trading.
There’ll be live piano music from Ilze Oosthuizen, while youngsters can enjoy a supervised jumping castle, face painting and spring-themed colouring until1 pmm.
The Ultimate Giba Gorge Challenge

If your idea of a gentle Sunday stroll involves steep climbs, river crossings and 18km of trail, the Ultimate Giba Gorge Challenge has your name on it.
The hike is the fifth and final leg of Durban Hiking and Adventures’ Big 5 Hiking Challenge, which has taken participants across five KZN trails covering a total of 129km.
Sunday’s finale heads through Giba Gorge Nature Reserve, promising waterfalls, beautiful scenery and enough climbing to make Monday’s stairs feel personal.
Individual hikers can also enter without completing the full five-part challenge, although they will not qualify for the official Big 5 medal, certificate or Hall of Fame.
DBN SLIMEz Events

Durban’s emerging hip-hop scene takes centre stage at DBN SLIMEz, a community-driven event presented by C3 Entertainment.

Step into the world of Indian classical music with Celestial Strings, presented by Shri Manesh Maharaj and his students.
The afternoon concert showcases young sitarists performing ragas, exploring expressive melodies, rhythmic interplay,y and the emotional depth of Indian classical music.
Hosted by Kala Darshan, the concert offers a chance to hear traditional sounds interpreted by the next generation of performers.

This collaboration between Paws & Pirouettes and Dancers Love Dogs is raising funds for animals in need in KwaZulu-Natal.
Performers are donating their time and talent, with 100% of funds raised going towards veterinarians supporting vital sterilisation programmes in less fortunate communities.
Mtunzini Mushroom Foray

Fancy getting to know your fungi? Join mushroom expert Jon Mac Gillivray for a guided introduction to the fascinating world of mushrooms.

Pens down, movie on. Hillcrest High School is marking the end of its Grade 12 trials and Grade 8–11 Term 3 assessments with an outdoor screening of Wicked at The Bowl.
Popcorn, food and drinks will be available to buy, while the event also serves as a fundraiser for the Hillcrest High School Representative Council of Learners.
Funds raised will go towards completing the school’s homework area, creating a sheltered outdoor space where pupils can work and watch sporting events.

Raising the Barre 2026

Raising the Barre 2026 celebrates another season of dance, bringing performers from tiny stars taking their first steps on stage to senior dancers ready to show what they can do.
