Sorry London - here are some Edinburgh eclipse photos that are actually really impressive

Well, the eclipse has taken place, and social media is awash with deadpan jokers - including our own London colleagues - proclaiming the whole thing was a bit of a wash-out because it was too overcast to see anything. Well, we hate to break it to you guys, but the eclipse in Edinburgh? That was actually kinda spectacular.

Inhabitants of Edinburgh took to Twitter to share images of the eclipse that captured the eerie majesty of the cosmic phenomenon, with the minimal cloud cover in this part of the country actually providing a helping hand in viewing the event without getting accidentally blinded.

And wouldn't you know it, we even got a visiting celebrity muscling in - comedian Joe Pasquale, in town as part of the Spamalot touring cast, snapped this lovely pic from Edinburgh Castle.
