A new afternoon tea venue is on its way to Edinburgh – complete with its very own tea sommelier.

Colonnades is to open its doors inside the city’s historic Signet Library next month, and is set to offer luxury afternoon tea made using seasonal Scottish produce.

The former Lower Library has been transformed into the new venue, which has been named in reference to the building’s distinctive pillars.

Premium caterer Heritage Portfolio has joined forces with the Signet Library for the venture, which will serve a signature afternoon tea including luxurious touches such as bespoke silver teapots.

Patrons who really want to know about their tea will be able to turn to venue’s dedicated tea sommelier, who can guide them through the various blends and types on offer.

Although wine sommeliers are fairly common, it’s not very often you see a dedicated expert for the humble cuppa!

Colonnades, opens June 1, Signet Library, Parliament Square.
