Time Out says

Do you count The Hague among the coolest cities in Europe? Well, you absolutely should. I know what you’re thinking: what could be ‘cool’ about all those embassies and government offices, about the International Criminal Court? But Den Haag has a phenomenal bar scene and a lively Chinatown, a thriving seaside resort district and world-leading music festivals, bags of history and spectacular works of architecture. It is quietly one of the continent’s most happening spots.

The Hague boasts a casual, unshouty sort of cool – and so does its first TRIBE hotel. TRIBE Den Haag Centraal may be yet another outpost of a global hotel chain (it’s one of Accor’s ‘midscale’ brands) but it suits the city well. Prim and practical, yes, but with far more style and depth to it than first appears.

TRIBE Den Haag Centraal is a great hunk of a building, a sleek and bold navy-blue tower surrounded by the shinier, glassier structures of the surrounding Spui neighbourhood. It opened in December 2025, not just rebranding a former Mercure hotel but overhauling it with all-new furniture and fittings.

What are the rooms like at TRIBE Den Haag Centraal?

Spacious and wisely proportioned, clean and well-equipped, heaps of style combined with the slick dependability of a chain – TRIBE is all of that. Its 159 rooms have pretty much all the features you’d expect of a brand-new hotel in the year 2026: plugs with a range of charging options, tonnes of storage, immaculate soundproofing, a bed you can truly sprawl on, a pleasingly hot and powerful shower, and a kitchen as fully equipped as you need for a short-term stay (with a coffee machine, kettle and fridge, but also a microwave, glassware and plates).

My room was on the 10th floor, looking directly over the Amare concert hall and Filmhuis but also with views out over the Nieuwe Kerk and the spires of the ‘royal capital’. An all-conquering global brand TRIBE may be, but I was struck by the additional details – particularly the design touches by studio HD+VK. The striking yellow sofa (and matching mustard kitchen cabinets), the loping floor lamp, the funky tiling, the plants dotted about the place. Even the bin was sort of stylish.

Hunting for imperfections, there were a few. The bed was a tad dusty, there was generally a lack of light after the sun went down (it was a bit of a push to read a book without straining) and a couple of the shampoo/body wash containers hadn’t been refilled. Small gripes, but gripes nonetheless.

What are the facilities like at TRIBE Den Haag Centraal?

Beyond the in-room stuff and the restaurant and bar (more on those below), The Hague’s TRIBE has a solid 24-hour gym and a vast, genuinely welcoming reception area with huge, curved sofas. If you’ve work to do, there are meeting rooms and a function hall.

What is the food and restaurant like at TRIBE Den Haag Centraal?

The first-floor restaurant and cocktail bar – called Hitchhike – is as design-led as the rest of TRIBE Den Haag Centraal, a sweeping space overlooking Spuiplein (and, during the warmer months, a terrace). All guests get a free drink at the bar on arrival, while at lunch and dinner the restaurant serves up Cali-Baja-inspired grub (ceviche, salads, tacos, asado and birria, that sort of stuff). It’s well-priced, sufficiently tasty food.

The breakfast, however, isn’t much to shout about. The buffet was solid but unspectacular, with a resplendent spread of hams, cheeses, fruits, yoghurts, cereals and pastries, but none of it was particularly excellent. It did the job.

The other food/drink option is the TRIBE Social Hub, which sells on-the-go ready meals, barista coffee, snacks and drinks.

What’s the area like around TRIBE Den Haag Centraal?

TRIBE is just on the edge of the The Hague’s busy centre – ideal for exploring the city but also quiet enough to get a good night’s sleep. You’re a 10-minute walk to Den Haag Centraal station and the Binnenhof (Dutch Parliament) and 15 minutes from the Noordeinde Palace. The blazing shops of Grote Markstraat is just steps away, as is the restaurants and bars of Chinatown.
