Speed down a dedicated sled track at Ylläs ski resort in Finnish Lapland – no ski skills needed, just pure winter fun

You don’t need to know how to ski to get a taste of downhill speed in Finnish Lapland – just grab a sled and get ready to race. At Ylläs, lift-assisted sledding turns the classic toboggan run into a proper winter thrill: ride up the mountain on a ski lift, then whoosh back down on a sled that’s all yours for the ride.
There’s a 480-metre track reserved exclusively for sledders, and the specially designed sleds come with steering wheels and brakes – so it’s a bit like a Mario Kart level, minus the banana peels.
Since its launch last winter, lift-assisted sledding has become one of Ylläs’s most popular activities, and it helps that it’s easy on the wallet. It’s about €17 for one hour or €27 for two, which includes the sled, a helmet and lift use for the duration of your session.

So next time in Finland, remember to bring your Super Mario overall – or channel your inner Koopa Troopa shell-spin or Donkey Kong power-slide as you zoom down the slopes.
All sledding adventures begin at the Y1 base station on the Äkäslompolo side, where you pick up your ticket, helmet and a quick safety briefing.
Riders should be at least 140 cm tall or 12 years old, and the track is open daily 10:00–17:00.
