You can also find crayfish ('escamarlà') in Japan, Africa, the Atlantic and the Caribbean, but in Catalonia there's only one kind to eat: it's long, Mediterranean and has memorable pincers. In November and December, various restaurants in Calonge, Sant Antoni, Palamós and Vall-llòbrega offer, for €33, a menu where crayfish is the star. To start, a seasonal salad, next some 200g of bay crayfish, then Baix Empordà–style stuffed squid. Plus, wine, dessert and coffee.
The restaurants taking part in this initiative are: Maria de Cadaqués, Bell Port, Hotel Àncora, L'arcada, Hotel Trias, MarBonic, Mas dels Arcs, Costa Brava, Guillermo, Refugi de Pescadors, Simon and Can Sidro.
