Time Out says

The creation of nativity scenes is widespread in Catalonia, both in family homes and in public spaces, and it's a custom that dates from the 14th century. To provide a taste of this traditional aspect of Christmas in the region, Girona is hosting the XVI Biennial of Catalan Nativity Scenes ('pessebres') until February 2. It's a show of different scenes that have been created by the various associations that make up the Catalan Federation of Crib Makers. This year, the show includes 16 scenes created to mark the 100th anniversary of the play 'Els Pastorets' ('The Little Shepherds'), a popular festive piece regularly represented at this time of year.
