The Michelin buzz around Boreal has been fermenting since opening day, while Grön has secured its place among Finland’s culinary elite with a second star

The city’s hottest new opening, Boreal, has earned its first Michelin star less than a year after opening its doors. The restaurant has quickly made a name for itself by turning fermentation into fine dining, with a hyper-seasonal menu built around Nordic ingredients, preservation techniques and produce from small local suppliers.
Meanwhile, Grön has secured its second Michelin star, cementing its place among Finland’s culinary elite. Long celebrated for its ingredient-driven cooking and one of the country’s most ambitious vegetable-focused tasting menus, Grön continues to prove that vegetables can be every bit as exciting as meat or fish.
With its second star, Grön joins Palace in Michelin’s two-star club. Palace earned its second star in 2022 and remains one of Finland’s most acclaimed restaurants, regularly topping rankings of the country’s best dining destinations.
Elsewhere in Finland, Michelin stars remain with Demo, Olo and Finnjävel in Helsinki, Kaskis in Turku and Vår in Porvoo.
There was one small shake-up: Helsinki restaurant Plein lost its Bib Gourmand distinction, Michelin’s award for particularly good value dining, though it remains listed among the guide’s recommended restaurants. Finland’s current Bib Gourmand holders are 305, Bona Fide and Nolla.
Michelin-recommended restaurants in Finland include Plein, Flor, Le Ankka, Bistro Bardot, Shelter, Natura, Young Hearts, Vinkkeli, Latitude 25, Le Coucou Vert, Aoi, Gaijin, Boulevard Bar & Seafood, Boon Nam, Nokka, Kuurna, Spis, Muru, Savoy, Bistro Ego, Cafe Savoy, Smör in Turku and Kajo in Tampere.
Congratulations to Boreal and Grön on their new stars.
