Craving a thrill? Helsinki’s best escape rooms have you covered

Looking for something different to do in Helsinki once you’ve ticked off the saunas and the main sights? Try locking yourself in a room.

Escape rooms have been part of city life here for just over a decade – the first opened in 2014 – and Helsinki has quickly carved out a reputation as one of northern Europe’s most inventive puzzle destinations. Today you’ll find dozens scattered across the capital, from beginner-friendly rooms to sprawling, cinematic scenarios designed to test even the most seasoned enthusiasts.

Helsinki isn’t yet in the same legendary league as Budapest, Athens or Barcelona – the cities escape-room fans whisper about in reverence – but it’s catching up fast. What sets the Finnish scene apart is the Nordic eye for detail: sets are meticulously built and clues are cleverly layered.

The result is a night out in Helsinki that’s equal parts adrenaline rush and mental workout. After the escape, it feels especially rewarding to wind down with a drink in one of the city’s best bars. And whether you’re a first-timer or a diehard puzzle-solver, you won’t miss out: nearly every escape room in town can be played in English as well as Finnish.

The Best Escape Rooms in Helsinki

1. Pakomielle

What is it? This one is its own beast. The playing field is an abandoned hospital, and professional actors are part of the game. You might track down a serial killer, pull off a diamond heist straight out of Ocean’s Eleven or tackle musical riddles to rescue a kidnapped artist.
Why we love it? The setting in the hospital adds a deliciously eerie edge, and acting alongside the performers makes it feel more like live-action role play than a traditional escape room. The adventure even ends with a rope descent from the upper floors.
Tukholmankatu 10. Expect to pay €60 per player, including abseiling.

2. Exite

What is it? One of Helsinki’s escape-room veterans, Exite runs eight different games across three locations in the art nouveau district of Katajanokka. The website handily lists each room’s difficulty level and success rate.
Why we love it? Who wouldn’t want to escape from the Titanic? The theme alone is brilliant, and the execution is spot-on: atmospheric interiors, varied puzzles and even a chance to tap out a Morse code distress call. The sets are so richly detailed that not everything you see is part of the solution.
Multiple locations in Katajanokka. Expect to pay €115 for two players, plus €20 for each additional person.

3. Huone Escapes

What is it? Opened in autumn 2025 in Tapiola, Huone Escapes is a fresh new arrival on the Helsinki scene – and a pleasant surprise. The facilities may be simpler than the big-name venues, but the experience is packed with charm.
Why we love it? These two escape rooms are clearly a labour of love. The puzzles are clever and varied, with moving walls and shadows revealing hidden clues. There are plenty of surprises, and in Captivating Art Exhibition the clues tie together beautifully at the end. It’s a great choice for first-timers too: as a newer operator, they might grant extra time if your hour runs out and no group is waiting.
Revontulentie 8, Espoo. Expect to pay €115 for two players, plus €20 per additional player.

4. aMazed Games Escape Rooms

What is it? Based in Hietalahti, aMazed Games was among the first Finnish companies to open escape rooms, and the experience shows. The sets are meticulously built, and every autumn the team stages seriously scary pop-up horror games featuring live actors, usually in time for Halloween.
Why we love it? Their Alchẽmia adventure was lately shortlisted among the best escape rooms in the world, sending players in search of an elixir of happiness. Other themes include secret-agent missions and a tongue-in-cheek vampire hunt. I tried Voyage, a steampunk-style space adventure to save the world – beautifully made, though some puzzles required sharp close-up vision (so bring your reading glasses or a magnifier just in case).
Köydenpunojankatu 4. Expect to pay €95 for two players, €120 for three, €140 for four, €150 for five.
