If Musafir Cafe has had you spiralling into a Mussoorie-shaped daydream since it dropped on Netflix on July 24, you're not alone, and you’re also not out of luck. The wooden, mountain-facing cafe in Vikrant Massey's slow-burn romantic drama isn't a set dressed up by a production designer with a moodboard. It's Jharipani Castle, a functioning heritage property in the Jharipani area of Mussoorie, Uttarakhand, roughly 7 km from the main town (close enough for a drive, but far enough to feel like you've earned the view).

The show – based on Divya Prakash Dubey's novel of the same name, created by Sharanya Rajgopal and directed by Ruchir Arun – follows Chander Mohan Sharma (Massey), a man whose tidy life gets rearranged after he meets Sudha (Vedika Pinto), an independent lawyer. Years on, he's running a cafe in the hills with Preeti (Mahima Makwana), except the past, being the past, refuses to stay where it's put. The film premiered on July 24, and the story shuttles between Bhopal and Mussoorie; it's the Mussoorie bits, filmed in November 2025, that turned Jharipani Castle into an online object of longing.

The cafe interiors in the film were built for the shoot, but everything else is real. Jharipani Castle operates as a boutique heritage hotel year-round.

Getting there: It’s about 7 km before Mall Road on the Dehradun-Mussoorie road. You can drive right up via the property's paved private road.
What it actually is: A 1932 heritage property built by the British, later the summer house of the Maharaja of Patiala (hence its old nickname, ‘Patiala House’). It fell into disrepair before the Bahri family acquired it in 2003 and restored it into today's boutique homestay.

Rooms: Just seven, no two alike. The one to look out for the jacuzzi experience is the Santorini Suite, otherwise the Suite Room has a neat valley view. The Semi Deluxe Room is the best budget-friendly option.
