Hundreds of music lovers gathered in Johannesburg this past Saturday to celebrate the cream of the crop in the Gospel industry.

The 12th annual Ingoma awards took place at the Glory House in Midrand.

It was a glitz and glamour event that brought the continent together. People traveled from as far as Lesotho and Swaziland to attend the prestigious event which shines a spotlight on independent artists and unsung heroes who work behind the scenes to bring music that uplift the spirit.

Television and radio personality, Masechaba Mposwa was one of the MCs who kept the energy alive.

The crowd was entertained with soul-stirring performances from renowned Gospel artists such as Ayanda Shange, and Qiniso Nsele.

Kgogelo Kekana stole the show with her electrifying electrifying performance that moved many to tears. She performed Dikgoro a song that turned her into an overnight star, gaining millions of streams within two months of release.

Khongelani from the award-winning Rising Sun Choir also got to perform on stage.

Speaking to Time Out Johannesburg, the songstress praised the Ingoma award organisers for inspiring hope in independent artists.

"Let the Ingoma awards organisers continue with this vision. They are encouraging artists that are not recognised."

South African-born international star  KingD Music, was amongst those who were awarded. He took home the award for Spotify Most Streamed Gospel Song award for his hit single, Jesus.

The singer who features on Deitrick Haddon's Stella nominated song Yesu told Time Out he appreciates being recognised for his work locally and thanked the Ingomas for "rewarding people who are pushing the boundaries".

The organisers of the awards, Dan Raseluma says it is fulfilling to see people who wouldn't often be celebrated receiving the cognition they deserve.

"I'm feeling fulfilled. Seeing people come out in this multitudes and the way they are celebrating Gospel music, it can only be God.

"To the nominees who didn't win, being a nominee is already a win. But to those who won, go out there, take your award seriously and keep on shining. Congratulations," Raseluma said.
