From limited-edition merch to massive giveaways, here is everything happening at Mall of Africa’s 10th birthday bash this month.

It’s hard to believe it’s been a full decade since that giant, undulating roof first rose out of the Midrand veld. Since 2016, Mall of Africa hasn’t just been a place to burn a hole in your credit card; it’s become the literal heart of Waterfall City and a massive touchstone for Jozi culture.
This April, the "Coolest Mall" (an actual title they’ve held for years, by the way) is turning 10, and they aren’t just blowing out candles. They’re hosting a massive cultural takeover that’s actually worth the drive up the N1.
Forget static displays. From 24 April, the Crystal Court will be taken over by a massive, interactive thread-based installation.
Think of it as a giant, living tapestry. Stores across the mall are contributing coloured threads that represent fashion, food, and film, but the cool part is that you get to weave yourself into the story. Shoppers are invited to add to the artwork in person, turning a retail space into a collaborative gallery.
If you’re going to pick one day to visit, make it Tuesday, 28 April.
Because it wouldn’t be a mall birthday without a bit of retail therapy, they’re launching the “10 Days of WOW Deals.” So check the Mall of Africa Instagram daily. They’ll be dropping exclusive offers from participating stores that you won't find anywhere else.
If you’re feeling lucky, there’s a Scan & Win competition running until 1 May. Find the QR codes scattered around the installation, scan them, and you could walk away with R10,000 in cold, hard cash. That’s a lot of sneakers.
For the first time, the mall is dropping limited-edition merchandise. If you’ve spent the last decade wandering these halls, you can grab a bespoke souvenir from the Thread Installation or the Concierge Desk starting 28 April.
