A trip to Cape Town is always tempting, although the journey to OR Tambo can be quite daunting for Johannesburg North dwellers.

Starting from Friday 4 December 2026, Airlink will operate direct flights between Lanseria Airport and Cape Town International Airport. Two return flights will operate every day, giving Joburgers another direct link to Cape Town without the trek to O.R. Tambo.

It’s not just good news for travellers. The route marks Airlink’s first scheduled domestic service from this airport, giving Lanseria a direct connection to Cape Town.

Flights will take off on Airlink’s 98-seat Embraer E190 aircraft, with a two-by-two cabin layout. No middle seats means you can choose a window or an aisle and leave the armrest politics at the airport.

There will be a morning and afternoon departure from Lanseria, with flights leaving at 9:10am and 1pm and arriving in Cape Town at 11:35am and 3:25pm respectively. For the trip back to Joburg, flights will leave Cape Town at 9:20am and 1:30pm daily.

The service is set to grow from Monday 22 March 2027, as Airlink plans to add more flights and operate four daily return services between Lanseria and Cape Town. The extra flights should make it easier to find a departure time that works for your plans, whether you’re off for the weekend or staying a little longer.

The timing works nicely for the summer holidays, with the first flights arriving in December when many Joburgers are already thinking about a Cape Town getaway.

Bookings are available through Airlink’s website, the FlyAirlink app and travel agents.
