Miyako Sushi
The first appeal of Miyako Sushi is its location, Greenside. This part of Johannesburg is very attractive to residents who enjoy a night out as it is known for being one of the city’s core lifestyle strips.
There’s a lot of creativity woven into Greenside’s aesthetic and whether you enjoy good scenery when taking a walk, are looking for a relaxed eatery or a high-tempo club, you’ll find your people here.

Kakami Sushi
With a large Afrikaans community and the unmistakable visibility of this culture, it’s easy to assume that Boksburg is a braai town.
However, the palate in this part of Johannesburg is just as diverse as the communities that inhabit it, and of course sushi is a big part of the Boksburg menu.
Kakami Sushi does things a bit differently because the restaurant also offers a Buy 1 Get 1 Free special from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM every Monday to Friday for takeaway or sit-down.
But you can still indulge in their all-you-can-eat buffet daily from opening until closing for just R220 per person. The menu derives its dishes from Chinese and Thai inspirations.
Theirs is not a self-service or conveyor-belt set-up, but a freshly prepared order-by-round menu with varieties of salmon, tuna, prawn, crab and vegetarian dishes to choose from, and you can even go for platters instead of single sushi options.

Shalow Waters Chinese & Sushi Restaurant
At this establishment you can absolutely go to town because you have the freedom to alternate between cold sushi plates and hot Chinese or Thai dishes.
Safely situated inside the Ruimsig Shopping Centre (or Ruimsig Plaza to the locals), this is the perfect spot to have your lunch after doing your store dash in Johannesburg's warm September weather.
Because of its location, you can even park your car right in front of the restaurant so that you can avoid a long walk once you’re done feasting.
At an impressively low R199 per person, the buffet is ready for you to dig in daily from 11:00 AM till 9:00 PM with an extra 30 minutes on weekends because the restaurant closes at 9:30 PM from Friday to Sunday.

For your little ones under 8 years old, there’s a special Children’s Buffet price of just R179.
From California rolls to Maki rolls and fashion sandwiches, your taste buds will be spoilt with prawn, avocado, smoked salmon and other tastes from the Sushi Selection.
If you choose the Hot Kitchen Extras, you’ll have a feast of hot sweet-and-sour soups, Thai curries and Chow Mein stir-fried noodles and other menu offerings.
In today’s unpleasant economy, Shalow Waters doesn’t believe in wastage and will charge you R25 if you don’t finish your food.

Tataki Oriental Cuisine
If you’re looking for a homely, no-frills eatery whose decor is not intimidating, then Tataki Oriental Cuisine is the right place.
The moving sushi platters on the conveyor-belt sushi track can be enjoyed at their bar-seating set-up which adds another layer to the restaurant’s relaxed feel.
But if you’ve brought your whole family or a group of friends, you also have the option of the standard restaurant booth seating area.
Your pocket will be happy to hear that while adults pay R235, children under the age of 10 can dig in for a low R150.
In addition to classic sushi rolls, Tataki’s special menu features Salmon roses topped with mayo and caviar, bean curd nigiri and foodies also get one portion of fresh sashimi as a limited menu option.
They also have soups, tempuras, dumplings and spring rolls with the buffet available for your enjoyment 7 days a week from 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM.
The restaurant has branches in Alberton, Fourways, Boksburg and Kempton Park so wherever you are in Johannesburg, there’s a Tataki near you.

You will feel like royalty with their plush seating and rich wooden finishes that are interwoven into the restaurant’s Asian-inspired decor.
Soya Soul’s appeal lies in their ability to bring high-end dining aesthetics and value-for-money buffets together quite seamlessly in their chic “Instagrammable” establishment.

The R268 daily buffet gets you anything from signature creations with Kiri cream cheese topped with sweet chilli and spices, to Gochu Chicken coated in sticky Korean chilli sauce and crispy Asian fries topped with marinated beef strips, sriracha and mozzarella.
Their wok offerings include Chicken Thai Red Curry and Thai Green Curry and Ramen noodles with bean sprouts, egg and crushed peanuts.
