Fans of Big Zulu were treated to a night of music, laughter and electrifying performances as the artist officially launched his latest album.

In case you missed it, one of Mzansi’s finest has dropped a brand-new project, and it’s already making waves.
Umkhulu, Big Zulu’s sixth studio album, was released last week and celebrated in grand style at the Theatre of Marcellus at Emperors Palace.
Hundreds of Inkabi Nation supporters filled the venue, ready to experience the magic firsthand.
The night kicked off with a lineup of local talent setting the tone. Fanatic SA opened the stage with high energy, followed by Starr Healer, who turned heads in a dazzling gold jacket. She performed fan favourite, Ngisayogana.
Another standout performer was Lwah Ndlunkulu, whose powerful vocals lit up the venue. Already a fan favourite, her performance proved exactly why she remains one of Inkabi Nation’s brightest stars.
Big Zulu later took to the stage to roaring applause.
During his set, the singer unpacked the meaning behind the album title Umkhulu, which translates to “elder”. He explained that the name reflects his role in mentoring and uplifting emerging artists, such as Xolani Tshabalala, fondly known as Stallion, who is now making his mark in the industry.
Tracks from the album were played on screen as he shared the stories behind them. Umkhulu is not just rich in sound; it is deeply introspective. Big Zulu touches on themes of love, friendship, resilience, and personal growth. Raised by his grandmother, he credits his upbringing for the emotional depth and spiritual grounding reflected in his music. Some songs struck such a chord that they visibly moved members of the audience.
One of the most touching moments of the evening came when he introduced a young, upcoming singer, Siphiwe Black, to the stage. The newcomer’s golden voice captivated the audience, earning a standing ovation. Overwhelmed by the response, she wiped away tears as Big Zulu praised her potential, saying he knew from the moment he heard her that she was destined for greatness.
A major highlight came when one of the album’s standout tracks, Nkofu, featuring Nkabi Nation, got the crowd on its feet. The song celebrates cultural collaboration, with Big Zulu paying tribute to his loyal Limpopo fanbase by featuring Tsonga lyrics, a move that resonated deeply with the audience and turned the performance into an instant party moment.
Among those spotted in the crowd was a close friend and fellow musician, Sjava. Big Zulu spoke warmly about him, referring to him as Makhaya, meaning “homeboy”.
One thing is certain about Umkhulu: it’s an album built for moments. Whether it’s a long road trip or a laid-back Sunday afternoon with friends, the project delivers a soundtrack filled with soul, storytelling and unmistakable Inkabi energy.
