The Lanseria International Airport has confirmed that it is still business as usual following an aircraft crash that happened in Midrand on Thursday.
A Cessna 210 aircraft crashed in Gauteng on Thursday morning.
According to Times Live, the aircraft departed from Lanseria International Airport at 10 am before crashing moments after take-off, within the perimeter of the Rhino and Lion Nature Reserve.
There were two people in the aircraft, the passenger and the pilot.
The South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) has confirmed that the pilot has died.
"The aircraft departed from Lanseria International Airport (FALA) before crashing moments after takeoff, within the perimeter of the Rhino and Lion Nature Reserve. There were two on board the aircraft, a pilot and a passenger. The pilot was killed, and the passenger was left seriously injured and airlifted to a hospital," SACAA told IOL.
Nomasiko Paarehwa, the Public Relations officer of Lanseria Airport, says passengers should not be alarmed because the crash did not interfere with business.
"It is business as usual, nothing was affected," said Nomasiko.
She added that its fire and rescue had to attend to the accident because it was near the airport.
"It was about 5- 10 km away from us," said Nomasiko.
"Our fire and rescue attended to the scene," she added.
The PR officer said the public should look out for a statement from SACAA, which is currently doing investigations.
"The Civil Aviation Authority is currently doing an investigation, they started yesterday. They will release their findings when they are done," said Nomasiko.
