For more than 20 years, Jimmy Carr has built his comedy career around dark humour, quick-fire jokes and the kind of punchlines that can catch you completely off guard. He is coming back to South Africa for the second time in as many years to make local audiences laugh, cringe a little or both.
The British comedian’s most recent visit was in March 2024 when he brought his Terribly Funny tour to South Africa. Now, South African audiences can catch Carr's Laughs Funny tour in Pretoria and Cape Town next year. The Pretoria show takes place at SunBet Arena at Time Square on 13 March, with Carr heading to Grand Arena, GrandWest in Cape Town the following night.

Carr has become a regular in South Africa over the past 15 years, making this more than just another stop on the comedy circuit. He’s also built relationships with local comedians, including David Kau and Johan Vlismas, who he described as friends in an interview before his 2018 tour.
In that same interview, Carr pointed to the darker side of South African comedy, where humour is often used to make sense of difficult social and economic issues. He even dropped in on Kau’s Blacks Only Comedy Show for a surprise appearance, adding another chapter to his connection with South African comedy.
What kind of night is Laughs Funny shaping up to be?
Carr's shows can get pretty uncomfortable, but that's also where much of the fun comes from. He's not afraid to go there, often turning uncomfortable moments into some of the night's biggest laughs. There's little time to catch your breath between Carr's jokes, with one punchline quickly giving way to another. Anyone who has already watched Carr before knows that he’s never been afraid of pushing things a little further.
Fans who’ve seen Carr before won’t simply be hearing the same jokes again. Laughs Funny is a new show with new material; it is an entirely different show from the Netflix special Natural Born Killer.Part of the fun of seeing Carr live is that you never quite know where the night might go. If you’re thinking of grabbing a front-row seat, you’ve been warned. The official tour description says it’s for “the very brave”, with audience interaction forming part of the show. The jokes may be planned but the moments that happen while Carr works the room can be a little harder to predict.
When do tickets go on sale?
Big Concerts Fan Club members can get tickets from 9am on Wednesday 30 September, with general sales opening on Friday 2 October at 9am.
