If you’re planning to fly out of OR Tambo International this winter, the landscape is shifting fast. From mid-year Euro-summer cancellations to exciting new ways to reach Spain and the coast, here is everything you need to know about the latest Johannesburg flight news.

Condor cancels key June flights

If you were planning to swap the Joburg winter for a German summer this June, you might want to check your inbox. According to Travel News Africa, German leisure carrier Condor has announced a string of cancellations on its Johannesburg–Frankfurt route due to "operational adjustments."

Condor cites network planning and aircraft rotation, which basically means they’re playing Tetris with their fleet during the busy peak season. If you’re booked on these dates, check your status immediately:

  • From Frankfurt (DE2288): 9, 16, and 23 June 2026.
  • From Johannesburg (DE2289): 10, 17, and 24 June 2026.

Air Europa touches down in June

Looking for a Plan B to get to Europe? There’s a new player in town. Air Europa is set to launch its first-ever South African route, connecting Madrid to Johannesburg starting 24 June 2026.

Operating three times a week on the sleek Boeing 787 Dreamliner, this is a massive win for Joburgers looking for a Mediterranean escape or a smoother connection into South America.

SAA connects Joburg to the Garden Route

Closer to home, South African Airways (SAA) is making the weekend away much easier. SAA has officially added George to its domestic route map from Johannesburg, starting from April 2026.

So whatever your plans, golf or a coastal breather, you no longer have to rely solely on low-cost carriers for the direct hop; you now have the option to fly in style with our national carrier. Can I get an amen for options?

Why this matters for your pocket

With the Euro-summer rush beginning in June, seat availability is at a premium. The Condor cancellations mean that seats on Lufthansa or SAA to Germany will likely spike in price.

Time Out Tip: If your Condor flight was cancelled, don't just take the refund, ask for a re-protection on a partner airline. If you’re still looking to book, the new Air Europa route might offer some competitive launch phase pricing that hasn't been snapped up yet.
