The Joburg Road Agency remains committed to ensuring a great commuting experience for motorists and pedestrians.

JRA recently engaged in road works on the Soweto Highway & Nasrec Road interchange and the M1 South & Crown interchange.

Officials fixed the damaged guardrails on the roads and took to X to share the completion of the work on the interchanges.

“We are replacing damaged guardrails on the Soweto Highway & Nasrec Road interchange and the M1 South & Crown interchange, enhancing safety on our motorways,” reads the post on X.

The repairs come after many roads in Johannesburg were damaged due to the recent rains and floods.

Potholes in the city

JRA has been fixing potholes on roads in the city.

The agency says it has received many complaints about potholes, which are also a result of the recent rains.

JRA has apologised for the delay in fixing the potholes and vowed to ensure speedy service delivery around the city’s roads.

It has issued a warning against illegal pothole repairs.

The JRA says using materials such as sand and bricks to fix potholes illegally can increase road hazards and put motorists at risk.

"The JRA acknowledges public frustration over delays in pothole repairs, citing heavy rains, budget shortages, and the end of the financial year as a reason for slower response time. From 1 July, the start of the new financial year, contractors will return on the roads, enabling the JRA to expedite both major resurfacing and minor pothole repairs across Johannesburg, read a statement posted on X.

Last week, the Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport reported that its pothole application app, PotholeFixGP, has been aiding it in service delivery.

According to a statement on its website, since PotholeFixGP was launched in 2022, over 38,790 potholes have been repaired by the department’s regional maintenance teams.
