Want to try something new and lekker this Heritage Month? This Joburg restaurant is ready to satisfy your craving the South African way.

Pizza Perfect has unveiled a new menu entirely focused on honouring our local flavours.

The award-winning restaurant, which has been serving locals and international customers with delicious pizzas for the past three decades, has introduced 16 new flavours to its menu to give South Africans a taste like never before.

The Keeping It Local menu includes:

Light meals - Smokey Bbq chicken wrap, Peri peri coated wings, and smokey bbq coated wings.

Fried chicken burgers - Blazing peri peri burger, spicy chakalaka burger, smokey bbq burger.

Subs - Bobotie mince sub, spicy chakalaka chicken sub, and curry mince and banana sub.

Pizza - Bobotie mince, spicy chakalaka mince, spicy chakalaka chicken, spicy chakalaka rib, curry mince and banana, curry chicken and coriander, and boerewors and tomato relish.

Time Out Johannesburg was honoured to taste some of the new dishes - the bobotie mince pizza, boerewors and tomato relish pizza, and the spicy chakalaka chicken sub. I first tasted the bobotie mince pizza. The pizza had a crispy, golden crust with an amazing, juicy mince flavour.

Next up on the plate was the chakalaka chicken sub. Every South African knows that chakalaka is one of the country's most loved vegetable relishes. The taste of the chakalaka on the buttered sub was yummy. The chakalaka and chicken really gave that 'oh-so South African' taste.

The boerewors pizza was my favourite. It was divine. Who would have guessed that boerewors could taste so good on a pizza? It was a unique and satisfying taste. This is definitely my favourite pizza and I hope they keep it on the menu even beyond Heritage Month.

Speaking to Time Out Johannesburg about the inspiration behind the new Keeping It Local menu, Pizza Perfect's General Manager Mark Tucker says the restaurant wanted to give customers something "different" and proudly South African.

He explained that Pizza Perfect is unique not only because of its commitment to quality, but also because it uses spices, sources and ingredients made in-house.

"The dough is our special secret recipe. We make everything at our kitchens. We make the dough. We even make our own tomato base, chilli sauces, and our own meats that go onto the pizzas. Everything gets made on side, with our own recipes, so the quality control is amazing. Everything is controlled as much as possible to give it the pizza perfect original taste."

"Our menu is big. We cater to every taste."

If you are tired of eating the same old traditional food and want something with a South African twist, Pizza Perfect is definitely the restaurant to try out this Heritage Month.
