Kora Restaurant officially launches in Sandton

After weeks of teasing its grand debut on social media, Kora Restaurant has officially opened its doors this past long weekend, adding a fresh and sophisticated offering to Sandton’s dining scene. 

On Thursday, the restaurant hosted an exclusive VIP pre-launch event attended by members of the media, and Time Out Johannesburg was among the invited guests, experiencing Kora firsthand.

From the entrance, the restaurant makes a strong impression. Its exterior signage makes a bold first impression, while the interior delivers a blend of modern elegance and warmth. The space is thoughtfully designed, featuring contemporary furniture and a striking wine cellar that immediately elevates the overall aesthetic.

Guests were welcomed by live music, which added charm and set a relaxed yet refined tone for the afternoon.

The culinary journey began with kudu, offering a delicate and slightly unfamiliar flavour. This was followed by the “forest treat” - a dish that felt earthy, fresh, and surprisingly filling despite its modest portion size.

The next dish was the ocean silk ceviche - a visually stunning offering that lives up to its social media hype. Not only is it Instagram-worthy, but it also delivers on flavour, leaving a lasting impression.

The ribeye steak stood out as a main course - perfectly cooked, juicy, and complemented by well-balanced sides that enhanced the dish. However, the undisputed star of the afternoon was the Kora ice cream selection. Featuring basil, butterscotch, and hibiscus, the dessert was mouth-watering. It’s a must-try for anyone with a sweet tooth. 

Overall, Kora brings an exciting and refined energy to Sandton’s already vibrant dining scene. Its location at The MARC shopping centre further enhances its appeal, offering scenic views and a naturally inviting atmosphere.
