She is young, vibrant and multi-talented! Bahumi Mhlongo was born into a famous acting family. Although her parents, Somizi Mhlongo and Palesa Madisakwane, are big shots in the entertainment industry, Bahumi has made a name for herself.
The actor, speaker, and social media influencer spoke with Time Out Johannesburg to share some of her favourite spots in the city.
Let's talk about your love for the city. You grew up in Gauteng, but have visited other parts of the world. What do you value the most about Johannesburg as compared to other cities?
I love how vibrant Johannesburg is. I know that sounds very corny and generic, but if you have been to different cities around the world, even around the country, you will realise that Joburg has a certain life and vigor to it.
The architecture, the hubs, the spots, the food, there is just a vibrancy.
Talking about food. What's your favourite restaurant in Johannesburg?
My favourite restaurant recently closed down. It was called the Orient in Melrose Arch.
I recently discovered another restaurant called Bonitas. It's one of a kind, a very small restaurant. They have amazing pastries, and it is a nice place to have a good breakfast.
The city has various Farmer's Markets, which one is your favourite?
Fourways Farmers Market is my favourite because of the food. I used to like it because of the vibe, but now it is just super packed, so when you visit, you have to get there early.
There is a market I went to last year at the Ground Venue. They have this amazing market. It is not huge, so it is easy to move around. There are beautiful stores, it's very serene. It's beautiful; the space is like nature all around you. It also has great music. It's just a vibe. That's my favourite market!
Where do you like to hang out?
I like estate clubhouses, which are very private and have good food. My favourite clubhouse is Steyn City (I guess you know where to find me now, LOL). I prefer to go to clubhouses, not so much for the drinks, but for the space.
What's your favourite mall?
Sandton City. There is nothing I prefer more than convenience, and Sandton is convenient. You want the restaurants, they are grouped together, and the clothing stores are all on one side. I know where to park, I know where to go out. In every other mall, you get lost. Sandton mall is so easy to navigate, so that's why I like it.
