For many South Africans, Heritage Day means getting together, putting on some music, sharing a meal and celebrating the traditions that remind us where we come from. But what happens when home is thousands of kilometres away?
Relebohile Mofokeng might be far from the braai back home this Heritage Day, but he’s found another way to bring a little South Africa to Belgium. Since joining Royale Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium, Mofokeng has been getting a taste of life abroad, but he’s still missing some of his favourite South African foods.
Mofokeng recently spoke about missing South African food and craving a proper braai, the kind of meal that's a little harder to get when you're living thousands of kilometres away.

So, ahead of Heritage Day, Shoprite sent Mofokeng a delivery of some of the South African favourites he was missing, from maize meal and boerewors to All Gold tomato sauce, KOO baked beans and NikNaks.
It’s the kind of shopping list that could come straight from a South African kitchen. There’s maize meal to make pap, boerewors for the braai, plus the sauces, baked beans and NikNaks that make the spread feel a little more familiar.
It might not be the same as celebrating back home, but when you’re far away, a few foods you know and love can go a long way.
