There are festivals. And then there is Rosefest.
Every year, Rosefest reminds us why an event created by women, for women, simply feels different. The energy is softer but louder somehow. Stylish without trying too hard. Full of celebration instead of competition. It is one of the few spaces where thousands of women can gather, dance, laugh, eat, shop and celebrate one another without the chaos that often comes with large-scale festivals.
This year was no exception. Hosted at Casalinga in Muldersdrift, the 2026 edition transformed the venue into a sea of denim as festival-goers embraced this year's theme with effortless style. Everywhere you looked there was another outfit worth complimenting. Corsets met oversized denim jackets. Cowboy boots paired with vintage jeans. Rhinestones sparkled in the winter sun, and suddenly everyone became the main character.
The girls were, quite simply, girling. And they looked incredible doing it.
What stood out most wasn't just how beautiful everything looked, but how intentional it felt. Every activation, installation and photo moment was designed with women in mind. Rosefest has mastered the art of creating spaces people actually want to spend time in, not simply queue for a photo before moving on.
The aesthetics were aestheticising.
From beautifully curated brand experiences to endless opportunities to capture memories with friends, every corner felt thoughtfully considered without becoming overly manufactured.
Despite attracting thousands of attendees, the festival never felt overwhelming. The venue was packed, but never chaotic. There was space to dance, catch up with friends, browse the various activations and simply exist without feeling swallowed by the crowd.
As someone who spends a lot of time at events, that's something I don't take for granted. It's rare to leave a festival feeling as energised as when you arrived. Usually, somewhere along the day, your nervous system starts asking to go home. But Rosefest never tipped into overstimulation. I never found myself looking for the exit or counting down until it was time to leave. Instead, I felt calm, present and genuinely able to enjoy every moment.
For me, that's the mark of a thoughtfully curated event. It's not only about who's on stage or how beautiful the décor looks. It's about creating an environment where people can fully settle into the experience. Rosefest managed to do exactly that.
Of course, the music remained at the heart of the experience.
Whether you found yourself dancing in front of the main stage or singing along from the back with a drink in hand, the soundtrack carried the festival from beginning to end. Everywhere you turned, somebody was dancing.
The vibes were vibing.
One of the standout moments of the day came through the Rosefest x Jacaranda FM Talent Search, which gave aspiring artists the opportunity to showcase their talent on one of Johannesburg's biggest festival stages.
Congratulations to this year's winner, Love, Tumi, whose performance and public vote earned her the title and proved exactly why initiatives like these matter. Discovering emerging talent doesn't just create memorable festival moments. It creates opportunities that extend far beyond a single performance.
And while the performances kept the crowds entertained, it's impossible to speak about Rosefest without giving Shekhinah her flowers.
Yes, she delivered an incredible performance.
But more importantly, she has created something far bigger than a music festival.
She has built a space where women can gather, celebrate themselves, express their style, discover local brands, support one another and simply exist without apology. That kind of vision deserves recognition. Rosefest isn't successful by accident. It's successful because every detail reflects an understanding of the women for whom it was created.
That spirit of uplifting women was woven throughout the entire festival.
Yes, there was great music.
Yes, there were beautiful outfits.
Yes, there were enough photo opportunities to keep your camera roll busy for weeks.
But beneath all of that was something much bigger: Community.
Women celebrating women. Friends hyping each other up. Strangers are becoming content creators for one another. Compliments flow as freely as the conversations.
In a world that rarely slows down, Rosefest offered something refreshingly different: a day dedicated entirely to joy and feminine energy.
And perhaps that's why it continues to resonate. It isn't trying to be the biggest festival, instead it's trying to be the most intentional.
And after another successful edition, it's safe to say Rosefest remains one of Johannesburg's most beautifully curated lifestyle experiences.
If this year's festival proved anything, it's that nothing quite compares to thousands of women gathering in one place to celebrate music, creativity, fashion and each other.
Rosefest wasn't just an event.
It was a reminder that when women are given space to shine, they create magic.
