Prepare to experience the beauty of the rainbow nation alongside international flavours at the Apartheid Museum.

South Africa is a remarkable country, rich in culture and diversity. People from all walks of life flock to Johannesburg for work, leisure, business, and entertainment, making it one of the most culturally vibrant cities in the world.
This May 23, the Apartheid Museum, in partnership with SOJO, will once again host a unique celebration of culture and connection - the Taste of Cultures Food Festival. This highly anticipated event continues a tradition of bringing people together to celebrate what makes South Africa such a dynamic and inclusive nation.
The festival goes beyond just food. Attendees can look forward to a full sensory experience featuring a diverse selection of international and African cuisines, along with arts, crafts, and live entertainment. It’s a vibrant showcase of traditions from across the globe, all in one place.
Speaking to Time Out Johannesburg, Mduduzi Ntuli of the Apartheid Museum shared that this year’s festival will highlight not only African dishes but also flavours from countries such as Portugal and Italy.
"You'll have people, not just SADC, but internationally - you'll have Portuguese, you'll have Italian, you'll have Afrikaans, you'll have Zulu, you'll have Indian, so it's various cultures, so it's not just SADC, it's not just tribes, but it's sort of like the global community," said Ntuli.
This year’s festival also ties into a broader national celebration. As South Africa’s Constitution marks its 30th anniversary, each month has focused on a different pillar. In May, which is celebrated as Africa Month, the spotlight is on diversity. The festival embraces this theme by creating a space where people from different backgrounds can come together in unity.
Ntuli emphasised that the event is more than just a celebration; it is an opportunity to promote equality, foster understanding, and embrace the spirit of Ubuntu. It encourages people to connect, appreciate one another, and celebrate what makes us human. Adding to the global feel, ambassadors from various countries will also be in attendance.
