Nestled in Edenvale in the East Rand, the X-Factor Trout Farm has a vast offering of activities including fly-fishing directly from the banks or from a float tube, a kiddies' area where they can collect semi-precious gemstones, braai facilities and other options.

The facility is a special hidden gem in Johannesburg whose waters are mostly obtained from underground springs.

Because the facility’s lake is a self-sustaining natural ecosystem, it is less susceptible to weather patterns, more resistant to pollution and maintains cooler temperatures.

It is also pet-friendly, so the furry family members don’t get left behind either.

What to do at the X-Factor Trout Farm

To ensure your little ones’ safety, the farm has a dedicated Mini Dam where parents can introduce fishing to their children without worrying about endangering them.

Your children’s first big catches will go a long way in building their confidence while creating fun, family memories.

The dedicated kiddies' area offers a sandpit, play area, jumping castles and a gemstone scratch patch where they can quite literally get their hands dirty.

And for the adults, the facility has a professional-grade managed fishery where they can catch trout, bass, carp, tilapia and catfish depending on the season.

At the Trophy Dam, seasoned fishers can test their skills in a personal catch-and-release challenge.

The trained and friendly staff at X_factor trout Farm will ensure that your children and whole family have the outdoor time of their lives.

Those wanting to go deep within the waters can get in on some tube and pontoon fishing action with their own or rented tubes, or even become members of the specialised Specimen Carp Club.

And because the trout farm also has braai facilities, whole families can join in on the fun.

What about group activities?

Schools can bring learners to the trout farm for a fun and educational outing where they can enjoy an outdoor learning experience about conservation, water safety and aquatic life.

The farm’s school holiday package goes even further, giving the kids lessons in fishing, fish care and survival skills such as fire-making, map reading and how to use a compass.

There are also Team Building Packages for corporates who can participate in Intra-Company Tournaments.

Team members don’t even need experience because there’s guided fishing for amateurs.

And if you’re looking for a different way to celebrate your little one’s special day, the trout farm also hosts outdoor birthday parties for children. The facility’s trained and friendly staff are readily available for a guided fishing experience.

You can also book their weekend clinics, which offer guests a world-class fishing experience. Instructors provide demonstrations, theory lessons and hands-on practical sessions.

The entrance fee to X-Factor Trout Farm is R60 and activities range from R100 to about R500 depending on your preference. There is no booking required for a casual day’s visit, but for the other activities you can enquire on this form.
