Established in 1904, Johannesburg Zoo has been a beloved attraction for over a century, drawing visitors both from within the city and beyond.

What to expect during your visit:

The Johannesburg Zoo is home to more than 320 animal species including birds and primates, with a total population of around 2,000 animals.

It features 10 exhibits:

• AngloGold Lion Enclosure

Festival of Lights

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at Joburg Zoo from 26 November to 3 January 2027, as the zoo comes alive with the Joburg Festival of Lights. Visitors can look forward to a dazzling display of illuminated, life-size animal characters, live entertainment, and a food and craft night market, making it the perfect festive outing for the whole family. Time Out Tip: Children under 3 years of age enter for free.
