All aboard! See Cape Town aboard South Africa’s largest private yacht

As a Capetonian for nearly fifteen years, I still find myself in constant awe, whether it’s the breathtaking beauty of the city or simply the privilege of being able to call this remarkable place home. Recently, someone asked me: What’s the best way to experience the Mother City?  The truth is, that’s part of Cape Town’s magic – there’s no single answer. You can wander the charming, eclectic streets of Kalk Bay, drive up to Signal Hill to catch a world-class sunset, soar above the city in a helicopter, or sail along the coastline with dolphins and seals making surprise appearances. That’s where The Mirage comes in.  Manley SocialThe Mirage set against the majestic backdrop of Table Mountain
Where to Find the Wild Ones Near Durban

Where to Find the Wild Ones Near Durban

Durban, as the key coastal city of KwaZulu-Natal, boasts some of the most diverse and spectacular wildlife on the planet. If you’re craving a break from the hustle and bustle of city life, this east-coast region of South Africa offers the perfect gateway to nature. From the legendary Big Five to fascinating reptiles and an incredible amount of endemic birdlife, it’s a dream road trip waiting to happen. Now, let’s clear up a common myth while we’re at it: no, we don’t have lions casually roaming down the streets or giraffes popping by for a coffee. But there are incredible reserves and parks nearby where you can safely see these amazing creatures in their natural habitats. While the thrill of seeing Africa’s iconic wildlife up close is unforgettable, always remember: you’re a guest in their territory. Respect their space, keep a safe distance, and never attempt to approach or interact with these wild animals.  So buckle up, grab your binoculars, and let’s explore the wild wonders waiting for you in and around Durban.

Local Intel: Clement Pedro

Want to know where the locals love to go? In this series on Time Out Cape Town, ‘Local Intel’ taps into some of the city’s best-connected characters to unearth the corners you simply can’t miss in the Mother City. “Cape Town is a chef’s playground,” says chef, content creator and TV personality Clement Pedro. When he’s not in the kitchen, you’ll likely find him wandering down to Giovanni’s, savouring Cape Malay flavours, enjoying our award-winning wines, or simply soaking in the beauty of the best city on earth. But for Clement, it’s not just the food or the scenery – it’s the people who truly define Cape Town. It’s the warmth of locals who open their homes, share their family recipes, and embrace one another’s cultures.  We caught up with him to get an inside look into the places and people that make Cape Town so special – from his go-to local chef to his lesser-known facourites you have to try. Time Out Cape Town: Which Cape Town neighbourhood feels most like “you” right now – and why? Clement: I’ve been living in the Southern Suburbs for four years, and it has been amazing, to say the least. It’s like the South has an open door policy when it comes to food. Everyone is ready to tell you a nostalgic story about a dish or ingredient, what they had for dinner, what they’re planning on having for dinner, who’s baking the best croissants in town and who’s brewing what and when.  It’s a foodie haven and beautiful mix of people and cultures, not forgetting the wine farms litera

Single in the City: Where to find love in Cape Town this July

Cape Town might be ranked the 10th best city in the world to find love, but let’s be honest – sometimes dating here feels more like navigating a maze than a love story. Add dating apps to the mix, and it can turn into a full-blown swipe saga. Sure, dating apps let you swipe right from the comfort of your couch (and in your pajamas – we don’t judge). But with great swiping comes great risk: catfishing, ghosting, and the ever-dreaded “situationship.” That’s where we come in. We’re here to help you put your phone down and actually connect, like, real eye contact kind of connect. Whether you’re looking for the one, a plus-one, or just want to mingle with Cape Town’s finest and like-minded singles, we’ve curated the ultimate event guide to help you find your vibe. P.S. If this ends in a wedding, we expect cake. And an invite.

Father’s Day, Cape Town Style: Local legends share their ideal day

In the lead-up to Father’s Day, Time Out Cape Town is getting an exclusive inside scoop on what makes the perfect celebration in the Mother City – straight from four local dads who are serving up more than just classic dad jokes (though expect a few of those too). While the perfect Father’s Day might look different from one dad to the next – from slippers and sleep-ins to braais and beach walks – one thing’s for sure: quality time with loved ones is the real gift (no socks required). To celebrate Father’s Day in the Mother City, we asked four local legends (we don't make the rules) – all masters of balancing dad life with doing the most – what makes the day truly unforgettable. There’s Smile FM’s Ryan O’Connor, the voice that wakes up Cape Town with a grin; our very own explorer-in-chief Richard Holmes, always chasing sunsets or discovering the next best thing; Time Out South Africa's Content Director and all-round creative wrangler Andrew Hallett, who is still searching for the perfect beer; and last but never least, Carl Wastie – the man of many hats (and mics), whether he’s lighting up screens on the 'Expresso Show' or spinning good vibes on Kfm. So, what does the ultimate Cape Town Father’s Day look like for them? Spoiler: it’s less about the gifts, and more about the moments. [Haven't made any plans yet? Cape Town is Africa's Best City for Nightlife!

Gone are the days when a great night out only meant dancing till dawn, sore feet, and questionable decisions (though, if that’s still your vibe, no judgment). These days, nightlife means something for everyone, and Cape Town proves that it’s the place to do it all.  The Mother City’s winning streak shows no signs of slowing down, further cementing its reputation as a world-class destination in every way. Fresh off being named the Best City on Earth and boasting the title of World’s Best Airport (shoutout to Cape Town International), the city has added yet another accolade to its growing list. Cape Town has ranked 11th in Time Out's Best Cities for Nightlife Right Now! We're also loving the fact that three other African cities  - Lagos, Cairo and Marrakesh - claimed some shine on the list.  SEE: The Culture Edit: Africa is the Future. Nothing but love: Tracey Lange on rallying behind stranded soccer tour

For radio personality Tracey Lange, having access to a platform and using it for good was a no-brainer when it came to a group of teens stranded overseas. What was meant to be the trip of a lifetime turned into a harrowing ordeal for this group of aspiring soccer players when travel planning for a football tour to Spain went wrong. After competing in the Donosti Cup, more than two dozen players from Cape Town-based BT Football Academy found themselves stranded in Spain and then Portugal after being moved by bus, with no flights home.  Parents, who had paid an estimated R50k for the trip, were left in shock as return flights failed to materialise — reportedly due to visa delays and inflated travel costs. As panic set in, Cape Town rallied.  Enter radio personality Tracey Lange, who spotted a post on the Coloured Girls Rock Facebook page and jumped into action. She helped launch a public fundraising campaign that would ultimately become a lifeline. She joined forces with pastors Dane and Tersia Mesane of Christ Culture Church, whose compassion and leadership played a vital role in reuniting the children with their families. "I saw the post on Coloured Girls Rock page on Facebook and that to me was proof that this was legit. We got hold of someone who could assist with the contact details of one of the coaches. South Africa is officially one of the world's funniest countries

If there’s one thing South Africans are known for, it’s our ability to laugh through just about anything. We don’t take ourselves too seriously – and more often than not, that sense of humour brings us together. Take lockdown, for example. When Cabinet Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma defended the tobacco ban with her now-infamous line – "When people zol, they put saliva on the paper, and then they share that zol" – the internet did what it does best. Within days, Capetonian music producer Max Hurrell had turned the moment into the viral hit 'Zol', which quickly became a national lockdown anthem. @maxhurrell SOMEONE DO A DANCE FOR THIS 😂 #whenpeoplezol #zol #tiktoksouthafrica #fyp #foryoupage #lockdown #cyril #level4 ♬ original sound - maxhurrell Fast forward to the 2023 Rugby World Cup and the peak of loadshedding, and Mgarimbe gave 'Sister Bethina', affectionately called South Africa’s unofficial second national anthem, a fresh spin with 'Amabokoboko (Sister Bokkina)', featuring the memorable line: "We’re taking the loadshedding to France, boys."
