We’re back with another edition of Single in the City, the series that helps you make real connections and maybe even find the one, through genuine, face-to-face interactions. No catfishing. Single in the City: Where to find love in Cape Town this October

Spooky season is here, but putting yourself out there, mingling and maybe even making a connection doesn’t have to be that scary (says the most single person you’ll ever meet). To help ease those jitters – and because, let’s be honest, we’ve all heard awkward first-date stories – here are a few simple steps to help you feel safe and confident when meeting someone new: Share your plans with someone you trust: Let a friend or family member know where you're going. Apps like Life360 or even sharing your live location on WhatsApp can offer added peace of mind. If you’re using Uber, don’t forget you can share your trip status, too. Do a little homework: At Time Out, we take care to only recommend reputable venues and trusted events in and around Cape Town, especially in our dating guides. Still, it never hurts to do your own research. If something feels off, trust that instinct. Bring a plus one: Most dating events are group-based with facilitators present, so you’re rarely left one-on-one. But if you’d feel more at ease attending with a friend, go for it. There’s no rule saying you have to fly solo. Listen to your gut: If someone crosses a line or makes you uncomfortable, you don’t owe them your time. It’s okay to step away or end a conversation early.  But, without further ado, let's get out there and find love this October in the Mother City.

All aboard! See Cape Town aboard South Africa’s largest private yacht

As a Capetonian for nearly fifteen years, I still find myself in constant awe, whether it’s the breathtaking beauty of the city or simply the privilege of being able to call this remarkable place home. Recently, someone asked me: What’s the best way to experience the Mother City?  The truth is, that’s part of Cape Town’s magic – there’s no single answer. You can wander the charming, eclectic streets of Kalk Bay, drive up to Signal Hill to catch a world-class sunset, soar above the city in a helicopter, or sail along the coastline with dolphins and seals making surprise appearances. That’s where The Mirage comes in.  Manley SocialThe Mirage set against the majestic backdrop of Table Mountain
Where to Find the Wild Ones Near Durban

Where to Find the Wild Ones Near Durban

Durban, as the key coastal city of KwaZulu-Natal, boasts some of the most diverse and spectacular wildlife on the planet. If you’re craving a break from the hustle and bustle of city life, this east-coast region of South Africa offers the perfect gateway to nature. From the legendary Big Five to fascinating reptiles and an incredible amount of endemic birdlife, it’s a dream road trip waiting to happen. Now, let’s clear up a common myth while we’re at it: no, we don’t have lions casually roaming down the streets or giraffes popping by for a coffee. But there are incredible reserves and parks nearby where you can safely see these amazing creatures in their natural habitats. While the thrill of seeing Africa’s iconic wildlife up close is unforgettable, always remember: you’re a guest in their territory. Respect their space, keep a safe distance, and never attempt to approach or interact with these wild animals.  So buckle up, grab your binoculars, and let’s explore the wild wonders waiting for you in and around Durban.

Local Intel: Clement Pedro

Want to know where the locals love to go? In this series on Time Out Cape Town, ‘Local Intel’ taps into some of the city’s best-connected characters to unearth the corners you simply can’t miss in the Mother City. “Cape Town is a chef’s playground,” says chef, content creator and TV personality Clement Pedro. When he’s not in the kitchen, you’ll likely find him wandering down to Giovanni’s, savouring Cape Malay flavours, enjoying our award-winning wines, or simply soaking in the beauty of the best city on earth. But for Clement, it’s not just the food or the scenery – it’s the people who truly define Cape Town. It’s the warmth of locals who open their homes, share their family recipes, and embrace one another’s cultures.  We caught up with him to get an inside look into the places and people that make Cape Town so special – from his go-to local chef to his lesser-known facourites you have to try. Time Out Cape Town: Which Cape Town neighbourhood feels most like “you” right now – and why? Clement: I’ve been living in the Southern Suburbs for four years, and it has been amazing, to say the least. It’s like the South has an open door policy when it comes to food. Everyone is ready to tell you a nostalgic story about a dish or ingredient, what they had for dinner, what they’re planning on having for dinner, who’s baking the best croissants in town and who’s brewing what and when.  It’s a foodie haven and beautiful mix of people and cultures, not forgetting the wine farms litera

Single in the City: Where to find love in Cape Town this July

Cape Town might be ranked the 10th best city in the world to find love, but let’s be honest – sometimes dating here feels more like navigating a maze than a love story. Add dating apps to the mix, and it can turn into a full-blown swipe saga. Sure, dating apps let you swipe right from the comfort of your couch (and in your pajamas – we don’t judge). But with great swiping comes great risk: catfishing, ghosting, and the ever-dreaded “situationship.” That’s where we come in. We’re here to help you put your phone down and actually connect, like, real eye contact kind of connect. Whether you’re looking for the one, a plus-one, or just want to mingle with Cape Town’s finest and like-minded singles, we’ve curated the ultimate event guide to help you find your vibe. P.S. If this ends in a wedding, we expect cake. And an invite.

A proud Cape Town local, originally from Somerset West, Tracey is deeply passionate about empowering women, giving back to communities, and shining a light on local talent. Father’s Day, Cape Town Style: Local legends share their ideal day

In the lead-up to Father’s Day, Time Out Cape Town is getting an exclusive inside scoop on what makes the perfect celebration in the Mother City – straight from four local dads who are serving up more than just classic dad jokes (though expect a few of those too). While the perfect Father’s Day might look different from one dad to the next – from slippers and sleep-ins to braais and beach walks – one thing’s for sure: quality time with loved ones is the real gift (no socks required). To celebrate Father’s Day in the Mother City, we asked four local legends (we don't make the rules) – all masters of balancing dad life with doing the most – what makes the day truly unforgettable. There’s Smile FM’s Ryan O’Connor, the voice that wakes up Cape Town with a grin; our very own explorer-in-chief Richard Holmes, always chasing sunsets or discovering the next best thing; Time Out South Africa's Content Director and all-round creative wrangler Andrew Hallett, who is still searching for the perfect beer; and last but never least, Carl Wastie – the man of many hats (and mics), whether he’s lighting up screens on the 'Expresso Show' or spinning good vibes on Kfm. So, what does the ultimate Cape Town Father’s Day look like for them? Spoiler: it’s less about the gifts, and more about the moments. [Haven't made any plans yet? It’s official: South Africa’s first Walmart is coming to Johannesburg!

After months of speculation following Massmart’s announcement that international retail giant Walmart would be opening its first store in South Africa, it’s finally official – the very first Walmart store will open at Clearwater Mall in Johannesburg. Although the exact opening date is still under wraps, Miles van Rensburg, Massmart President and CEO, says, "It’s an experience that blends the best of global retail with a proudly local touch. Since announcing the arrival of the first Walmart-branded stores in South Africa, the excitement has been incredible, and our team is proud to deliver this new and meaningful chapter in South African retail." What makes Walmart different? If you’ve found yourself wondering, "Do we really need another grocery store?", you’re definitely not alone. After all, many of us stick to what we know. But Walmart is aiming to shake things up. And let’s be honest, with the rising cost of living, that sounds like a dream come true. What this means for local employment According to Massmart, the new Clearwater store will employ over 80 associates, led by Store Manager Onicca Mothapo. "I’m looking forward to opening the doors to a customer-focused store that offers exceptional service, Walmart’s Every Day Low Prices, and that cares deeply about

Bafana Bafana's World Cup Comeback: Players to watch and the road ahead

Bafana Bafana's World Cup Comeback: Players to watch and the road ahead

It’s been 24 years since Bafana Bafana last qualified for the FIFA World Cup through the group stages. Needless to say we're pensive, but still hopeful with this World Cup 2026 Planning Guide. Optimism aside, we wanted to get the pragmatic take on Bafana Bafana's actual chances in the tournament. Sports journalist Cato Louw shares her take on what this moment means for South African football - and what comes next.  Bafana Bafana’s qualification is a historic moment. What kind of impact do you think it will have on soccer and sport as a whole in South Africa and Africa? “It truly is an amazing, memorable, historic and almost unbelievable moment given the route we have taken to get here. It’s historic because it's the first time in 24 years that we have qualified via the qualification route, meaning we took the route all the teams take. “Every four years, the host nation gets an automatic qualification, which we got in 2010. So, it’ll be the first time in 16 years that we will feature in a World Cup, but the first time in 24 years that we’ve actually qualified for one. “It’s a significant moment and one that is going to impact soccer in South Africa as well as Africa. SAFA are one of the biggest federations on the continent, so if we do well, it only bodes well for the rest of Africa. The better we do, the more eyeballs, more sponsors, and more people get on board with the team and the programmes. “As we’ve learned from the Springboks, when a team wins, people start believing

Self-love looks different for everyone. For some, it’s a fresh set of nails, a glowing facial, a delicious meal, a good workout, or catching up with a friend over coffee. Sometimes, it’s simply giving yourself the grace to sleep in. But if we're being honest, how often do we overlook what’s arguably even more important – our inner health?
