Nestled in the west of Johannesburg, the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden is a haven for nature enthusiasts. The garden is home to a rich diversity of wildlife, with approximately 240 bird species recorded on site. Visitors may encounter mammals such as the aardvark, yellow mongoose, black-backed jackal, and Cape porcupine. Reptile species, including various tortoises and lizards, also call the garden home.

What to expect during your visit:

In addition to its wildlife, the garden features Witpoortjie Falls, a natural landmark that adds to its scenic charm. Guests can also explore the garden through guided tours.

The garden is home to a range of facilities, including:

  • Strelitzia Hall: Ideal for weddings, conferences, and corporate events, this venue can accommodate up to 185 guests when arranged in a theatre-style seating layout.
  • Nestle Environmental Education Centre: Dedicated to garden-based environmental education, this space hosts school groups, talks, lectures, and workshops.
  • Lapeng Lapa: An outdoor entertainment area that can accommodate up to 20 people under cover and up to 100 when including the surrounding garden area.

An on-site restaurant is available for refreshments and meals, open daily from 9 am to 5 pm.

  • Children (under 6 years): Free
  • Pensioners: Free entry on Tuesdays
