It’s Sammy Hagar’s world, we’re just living in it.
With his Cabo Wabo Cantina and the Palms naming its pool Sammy’s Island in honor of him, the Red Rocker already has a stranglehold on the city. This weekend proves he rules over it.
The legendary rocker’s “The Best of All Worlds” tour makes a stop at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on August 9 and the town is rolling out the red carpet with a series of events tied to the former Van Halen singer.
From pre-parties with food and drink specials to afterparties with cover bands and a poolside bash with themed cocktails and a ticket giveaway to his October birthday concert, it’s all Hagar all the time.
For his loyal Redheads, this itinerary shows “There’s Only One Way to Rock” Las Vegas this weekend.
Friday, August 9
- Pre-Show: Get a “Jump” on the events with a pre-concert fiesta at Cabo Wabo Cantina. Order the all-you-can-eat taco bar ($45) and get filled up with beef, pork or chicken tacos while sipping your one free Santo tequila margarita. The party runs 2 to 5pm. Return on Saturday and you’ll get 20% off your bill with a valid ticket.
- Concert: Hagar’s “The Best of All Worlds” tour pairs him with longtime bandmates Michael Anthony, Jason Bonham and Joe Satriani who have played with him through his Chickenfoot, the Circle and Van Halen days. So expect a setlist that includes “Finish What Ya Started,” “5150,” “Your Love is Driving Me Crazy,” “Sexy Little Thing,” “One Way To Rock” and “Right Now” to start.
- Afterparties: There are a bunch. At MGM, Nellie’s Southern Kitchen hosts a live performance by the Hagar tribute band, 3 Lock Box, along with two-for-one drink specials on Hagar-based cocktails (the same twofer deal is also available at Losers Bar). Across the Strip at the Cosmopolitan, the Barbershop will have Radio XX playing covers of Hagar favorites and feature shots of Santo Fino Reposado and Hagar’s Red Rocker Lager.
Saturday, August 10
- Rockin’ Redhead Pool Party: For those still in the party mood, Sammy’s Island at the Palms Casino is the place to be. The free admission pool party (10am-6pm) will feature themed cocktails, bands playing ’90s covers and a giveaway with a chance to win tickets to Sammy Hagar’s Birthday Bash concert at the Pearl Theater on October 4.
