A Haunted House

You know a fright-flick craze is in danger of running its course when comedian Marlon Wayans, this film’s star, co-writer and producer, comes along to broadly, belatedly spoof it. Wayans takes on the ‘found-footage’ genre, playing a camera-carrying dude whose bachelor pad is invaded by a flatulent girlfriend, a ganja-loving ghost and a bunch of unfunny stereotypes. The dated references (a ‘Blair Witch’ joke) suggest we’re watching yet another ‘Scary Movie’ sequel, but no: we already had ‘Scary Movie 5’ in April, which means this lazy comedy is the second of two ‘Paranormal Activity’ parodies being crammed down our throats this year. The horror!
