Time Out says

3 out of 5 stars

A for-fans documentary following the writing and recording of Iggy Pop's 2016 LP 'Post-Pop Deppresion' with Josh Homme

In March of last year, Iggy Pop released his 18th studio album ‘Post Pop Depression’, written and recorded with Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age. This gentle, fan-friendly documentary – co-directed by Homme with fashion photographer Andreas Neumann – tracks the record’s creation, and the tour that followed. It’s all pretty basic stuff: Pop and Homme recount how they headed to a remote studio in the desert outside Joshua Tree to bond and record, before polishing the tracks up in LA and heading out on the road.

Peculiarly, the talking head interviews are conducted by chef and writer Anthony Bourdain, but his probing approach doesn’t result in any great revelations: Pop’s memories of the day David Bowie died are moving, but otherwise it’s all pretty self-indulgent and ‘Post Pop’-specific. Iggyologists may find this thrilling; for the rest of us it’s just another slightly forgettable rock doc.
