Warner Bros second foray into Bollywood is a brainless masala potboiler which may please its intended mass audience. Indian Sikh lad Sidhu (Kumar), a ‘vegetable cutter’ from the famous Delhi market district of the title, goes to China where he is mistaken for the reincarnation of a revered freedom fighter by the locals of an oppressed rural village. Our hapless hero, with the help of his pet potato, must defeat the evil Hojo (Liu). Do not expect logic, characterisation or sophisticated humour. From the outset, this vanity vehicle for its hammy hero revels in jokes involving butt-kicks, numerous Matrix-style fight sequences and in a preposterous family reunification subplot. Shouting equates to acting; emotions are conveyed via the flow of incessant glycerine tears. Loud, inane and only fitfully funny.
