Doña Herlinda and Her Son

Time Out says

Doña Herlinda, despite her indulgent front, is a woman of implacable will. She wants her son to marry, produce children, and be happy, but Rodolfo is gay. She proceeds to take charge of his love life. Ramón, Rodolfo's lover, is moved into the family house, and drops his taco in shock when she suggests adjoining beds. 'What if you need something in the middle of the night?' she says, without innuendo. The film has some of the subversive charm of Agnès Varda's 'Le Bonheur', and adds a new dimension to the concept of extended family. Serenaders appear with small guitars at the drop of a sombrero, camping key moments with their sentimental songs - just one amusing detail in this nicely judged satire.
