Full Moon

This detailed but ultimately unrewarding portrait of the tragic, comic and romantic aspects of contemporary Moscow life follows a decathlon of loosely connected narratives. A man sits opposite a plump girl on the metro and fantasises about having sex with her; an ageing dog, basking in the sun, remembers his hunting days; and a young prostitute dreams of a medieval Prince visiting her grave. While Shakhnazarov successfully strives for an evocative balance of fantasy and reality, the film is let down by primitive camerawork and flaccid performances.
