I Want You

Having achieved tremendous success five years earlier with The Best Years of Our Lives, producer Samuel Goldwyn had high hopes for this slightly less distinguished domestic drama, written by Irwin Shaw, exploring the effects of the Korean war on a small-town family construction business. Suggested by the recent experiences of the mogul's own son, future movie-maker Sam Jr, it's a well intentioned, low-key effort, and though it never quite escapes the feeling that all concerned are walking on eggshells, a valuable record of the times still emerges.
